E. Discussion
To begin with, let us first define what
is weather. Can someone read the
defenition? Weather is a condition of the
atmosphere for a short period of time.

Let's proceed to Weather

Disturbances, can someone from the
class read it. A weather disturbance is a term used
to describe a change in atmospheric
conditions or weather patterns.

Let's define what is tropical cyclone.

A tropical cyclone is a weather
disturbance characterized by a big
mass of wind and rain whirling around
a center of low pressure called the
“eye”. Tropical cyclones have different
names around the world depending on
where they are. In the Atlantic/Eastern
Pacific Oceans, they are known as
hurricanes, while in the Western
Pacific, they are called typhoons. In the
Indian Ocean, they are recognized as
cyclones.
In short, Tropical cyclones form when
warm air moves over the surface of
the ocean, creating a massive
amount of water vapor.

Let's move on to the Kinds of

Cyclone. There are five Kinds of
cyclones, the first is Tropical
Depression. Can someone from the
class read. Tropical Depression (TD) is a tropical
cyclone with maximum sustained
winds of up to 61 kilometers per hour
(kph) or less than 33 nautical miles per
hour (knots). It is a weak low pressure
with a definite surface circulation

TD is most common in the equatorial

region or the intertropical
convergence zone (ITCZ).

The second Kind is Tropical Storm. Tropical storm (TS) is a tropical cyclone

88 kph or 34 - 47 knots.
When a tropical depression
intensifies, it becomes a tropical
storm.

The third kindn is Severe Tropical Severe Tropical Storm (STS) is a

speed of 89 to 117 kph or 48 - 63
knots.

STS is more organized and more

circular.
The fourth kind is typhoon. Can
someone from the class read.
Typhoon (TY) is a tropical cyclone with
a maximum wind speed of 118 to 220
kph or 64 - 120 knots.

TY most of the time, accompanied by

heavy rains and strong winds.

The last is Super Typhoon. Can

someone read.
Super Typhoon (STY) is a tropical
cyclone with maximum wind speed
exceeding 220 kph or more than 120
knots.

STY areas that are hit by this kind

face a large amount of destruction.

For us to become safe during

weather disturbances, what are the
things we need to do? Can you read In order to become safe during
it. weather disturbances, we must:
1. Stay indoors during storms.
2. Always listen to weather updates.
3. Make an emergency plan and know
your evacuation zone.
4. Recognize warning alerts.
5. Stay away from hazardous areas
6. Evacuated if necessary.

mechanics of the activity:
1. The image will be paste on the

2. The student will pick from a set of
jumbled definition and names of
cyclone.
3. After picking, the student will
paste it under the correct image that
displayed on the board.
4. If you want to answer, just raise
your right hand and keep quiet.
