Requirements Engineering

"The process of establishing the services that the customer requires from a system
and the constraints under which it operates and is developed. "

Requirements engineering provides the appropriate mechanism for understanding what the
customer wants, analyzing need, assessing feasibility, negotiating a reasonable solution, specifying
the solution unambiguously, validating the specification, and managing the requirements as they
are transformed into an operational system [Tha97]

What is a Requirement?

Requirements are the descriptions of the system services and constraints that are
generated during the requirements engineering process.

What is Requirement Specification?

"The software requirements document (sometimes called the software requirements

specification or SRS) is an official statement of what the system developers should
implement. It should include both the user requirements for a system and a detailed
specification of the system requirements. "
