Production Process
The production process is the stages of making a media product. These stages are:

● Production - Materials are produced

DSLR Camera
A DSLR Camera or a digital single-lens reflex camera
is a camera used for capturing exceptional images for a
Magazine. You can use the camera to preview images
and look at images already taken. There are many
different settings that can be utilised while using a
dslr camera. Cameras are extremely important for
magazine production as they are needed to take photographs that are needed to
illustrate the magazine as a magazine without photographs would be boring and not
very informative.

Adobe Photoshop- Photoshop is a photograph manipulation
software, the software is used by many different companies and
organisations it is paid for through a subscription which can be paid
either monthly for £21.98 or annually for £262. Photoshop is
important to magazine production as it is a useful tool to edit and
create magazine pages and photographs that will be used in the
magazine.

platform that allows users to edit page layouts, graphic designs and
illustrations and other things. Quark is a paid subscription that
costs £279 annually. Quark is a editing tool that allows the
production team to edit and alter any pages making it useful for
magazine production.

Magazine Production Process
Pre-production- content
In pre-production the content stage is when the editorial team will share ideas as
well as make decisions about the contents of the magazine for that specific issue.
They do necessary research into each topic they talk about within the magazine,
this stage of the pre production is essential because this is where all the decisions
are made and where roles are allocated and established.

Pre production- flat planning
In this section the editorial team will create a flat plan, A flat plan is a page by page
plan of how the magazine is going to be laid out. It helps construct an order for
where all the content such as adverts and articles are going to be placed within the
magazine. The flat plan is important as it allows the editorial team to look back and
easily change the layout of the magazine to better fit the content, it also helps them
plan the length of each article that's in the magazine and what images are needed
and where they can be placed. This stage is essential as this helps make everything
organized and helps show what expectations are needed for the magazine.

Production
At this stage in the production process the team and the writers will plan out the
articles and conduct research. The articles for the magazine will be written and any
needed photoshoots will be arranged as well as this the editors will see if they need
any archive images.

Production-writing and sub-editing
In this stage the sub editor will check through each article making sure everything
is spelled correctly and all the grammar is right they also check the length of the
article. The sub editor will ask the writer to make it either longer if the article is too
short or they themselves will shorten the article or ask the writer to shorten it if
the article is too long. The sub editor may then also use pre-made templates that fit
the house style of the magazine. This stage is essential as this is when the pages of
the magazine are constructed.

Post production-checking printers proof
At this stage the final magazine pages will be sent to the printers. The publishers
will provide a mock-up to give to the editors for final approvals.

Post production- completion and distribution
This stage starts once the editors have given their approval for the magazine to be
published. All the final copies are printhead and assembled. They are sent to the
distribution companies and sent to retailers and customers from there.

● Sub-editor: Sub editors are responsible for checking over work done by the
writers and other production team members. They will check grammar and
spelling, remove any unnecessary words,fact check things and aid in page
design.
● Graphic designer: A magazine production graphic designer creates the layout
and visual design for a magazine, including the cover and inside pages. They
also work on other company assets, such as websites, business cards, and
email signatures.
● Photographer: Photographers take photos for publication in the magazine
they will travel to various different locations for photoshoots and they will
also edit their own photos to get a specific look.
