with the sums up to 1 million.

Very good kids.

2. Analysis
Now we’ll proceed on our discussion.
I know all of you is familiar on adding
numbers.

Adding numbers can be done using the

vertical method.

We can add numbers with regrouping or

without regrouping.
Without regrouping- two or more digits
will have the sum of less than 10.
With Regrouping- two or more digits will
have the sum of 10 or greater than 10.
You carry over the extra value to the
next higher place value.

Now let us first have the parts of

addition.

Now let us have here our example.

Now let us solve it.

Zero plus zero is? Zero.

Nine plus 1 is? Ten.

Okay very good, then what we should Carry out 1.
do?
Very good!

We’ll just continue adding the rest of the

numbers.
Now our total is?
Very good! One million.

Now let us have another example but

this time, I will call someone to answer it
on the board is that alright?
Yes teacher.
Okay very good let us answer.
(Students will raise their hand to
784,321 answer)
+ 215,679
_______
Okay Fran, you may answer, after
answering you will explain how you get
your answer, is that alright? Yes ma’am.
Add the ones place: 1 + 9 = 10, write
down 0, carry over 1.

Add the tens place: 2 + 7 + 1 (carried)

= 10, write down 0, carry over 1.

Add the hundreds place: 3 + 6 + 1

(carried) = 10, write down 0, carry
over 1.

Add the thousands place: 4 + 5 + 1

(carried) = 10, write down 0, carry
over 1.

Add the ten thousands place: 8 + 1 +

1 (carried) = 10, write down 0, carry
over 1.

Add the hundred thousands place: 7

+ 2 + 1 (carried) = 10, write down 0,
and add the 1 to get 1,000,000.
Very Good! Let us give Fran a clap!
You may now take your seat.

3. Abstraction
Now class, what have we discussed
today? Adding numbers with the sum of
1,000,000 with regrouping.

How do we add numbers with You carry over the extra value to the
regrouping? next higher place value.

Valuing Knowing how to add big numbers

What is the importance of knowing how like a million is important because it
to add numbers with the sum of 1 helps us with math skills we use
million? every day. It makes us good at solving
problems and thinking smart. Plus,
