Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan for Grade 5 in Music

I. Objectives:

At the end of the session, the pupils will be able to attain the
following objectives with 80% accuracy:
a. Identify and explain how sectional form works in music. Particularly binary,
ternary, and strophic forms.
b. Demonstrate different types of sectional forms through singing.
c. Appreciate the importance of sectional forms in music.

V. Procedures
A. Before the Lesson
 Greetings
 Give a starting activity with a simple song. Have students learn the song
“Shoo, Fly”.
 After the activity, ask the students on what they observed about the song
“Shoo Fly” to connect the topic from the previous lesson.

B. During the Lesson


 Define sectional forms: Musical phrases can be joined to make bigger
parts called sections. If phrases is like a sentence. Sectional Forms is like
a paragraph. Just like paragraph, it is composed of sentences. Sectional
forms are composed of phrases.
 Provide printed visual materials and listening activity presenting the
different forms of music. Explain each form, provide a brief description
while playing some music examples:
a. Sing a song such as “she’ll be coming around the mountain when
she comes” for the example of AAA Form or Strophic Form.
b. Sing a song such as “Riding in a buggy Miss Mary Jane” for the
example of AB Form or Binary Form.
c. Sing a song such as “Sho fly” for the example of ABA Form or
Ternary Form.

 Use musical terminology

C. After the Lesson


 Recall the first song “Shoo Fly” as the example for the ternary form and let
the students analyze and apply the topic to the song.

VI. Evaluation
Activity-Based Assessment:
 The class will be divided into 2 sections. Blank papers, markers and sticky
tape will be provided in each group.
 The teacher will give a group activity by identifying the different sectional
forms from the previous songs “She’ll be coming around the mountain” and
“Riding in a Buggy Miss Mary Jane”.
 They will identify the phrases and sections in the provided paper and
match them to the correct answers by sticking it using the tape provided.

VII. Assignment
 Assignment: Provide a worksheet containing a familiar song "Bahay
Kubo." Identify the phrases, sections, and what kind of sectional form it is.
