Chapter 7: Teacher's Ethical and Professional Behavior in the Community
Moderator: To start, let’s discuss the ethical and professional responsibilities of
teachers in their communities. Panelist #1, how do you think teachers can effectively
balance their role as educators and community leaders?
Panelist #1 (jaa): Teachers can balance both roles by integrating community concerns
into classroom discussions and projects, ensuring that education remains relevant and
responsive to societal needs. They can also actively participate in local organizations,
collaborate with parents, and advocate for educational policies that benefit both the
school and the community.
Panelist #2 (marcus): I agree. One of the most effective ways is by creating a
nurturing and positive learning environment while also engaging in outreach programs.
When teachers foster strong relationships with students and parents, they naturally
bridge the gap between the school and the community.
Moderator: That’s a great point! Now, Panelist #3, how important is ethical behavior
in fostering a positive relationship between teachers and the community?
Panelist #3 (angelica): Ethical behavior builds trust between teachers and the
community, ensuring strong partnerships that support student development. It upholds
the integrity of the teaching profession, setting an example for students and reinforcing
the values of honesty, fairness, and respect.
Moderator: Good insights! Before we proceed to our next chapter, I have here two
envelopes that contain follow up questions about our topic. This is so exciting! Right?
You can choose one, Panelist #4.
(the moderator will read the selected envelope) What strategies can teachers use to
encourage community involvement in school activities?
Panelist #4 (monica): Teachers can organize community engagement programs such
as literacy campaigns, environmental initiatives, and outreach projects that involve
parents and local leaders. Establishing open communication channels, such as parent-
teacher conferences, newsletters, and social media groups, helps keep the community
informed and engaged.
Moderator: Panelist #5, this is my gift for you. (the last envelope for this topic) How
does a teacher's leadership extend beyond the classroom into the community?
Panelist #5 (mary): Teachers can take on mentorship roles, guiding students in
extracurricular activities, youth organizations, and community service projects. They
can collaborate with local officials and organizations to address community challenges,
such as poverty, health, and education accessibility.
Chapter 8: Organizational Leadership in Education
Moderator: Now, shifting to our second topic: Organizational Leadership. Panelist #6,
can you elaborate on the different leadership styles that are effective in an educational
setting?
Panelist #6 (rica): There are various leadership styles, such as democratic, autocratic,
and transformational leadership. The most effective in a school setting is democratic
leadership, which allows collaboration and participation in decision-making, ensuring
that every stakeholder has a voice.
Panelist #7 (melaiza): Yes, and I would add that transformational leadership plays a
crucial role in motivating teachers and students. It fosters innovation and growth,
ensuring that educators are always striving for improvement and adapting to modern
teaching methods.
Moderator: That’s insightful! Now, what distinguishes a great school leader from a
manager? Panelist #8?
Panelist #8 (april): A great leader focuses on long-term vision and inspiring change,
while a manager ensures the smooth execution of daily operations and administrative
tasks. Leaders empower their team and encourage innovation, whereas managers
prioritize efficiency and adherence to existing policies.
Moderator: Fantastic, Panelist #8. Again, I have here two envelopes that contains
follow up questions about our topic. Panelist #5, you can choose one. (the moderator
will read the selected envelope) Which leadership style do you think is most effective in
a school environment?
Panelist #6 (rica): The transformational leadership style because it encourages
continuous improvement, motivating educators to innovate and embrace new teaching
methodologies. And also, the democratic leadership style fosters inclusivity, allowing
teachers and students to participate in decision-making and creating a collaborative
school culture.
Moderator: Magnificent thoughts, Panelist #6! Earlier, I gave a gift for the Panelist #5,
now this gift is for the Panelist #1. (the moderator will read the selected envelope) How
can school leaders inspire and sustain innovation within their institutions?
Panelist #1 (jaa): School leaders can create a culture of lifelong learning by providing
training opportunities, workshops, and resources for teachers to enhance their skills.
Encouraging experimentation and recognizing creative solutions help sustain a culture
of innovation, allowing schools to adapt to changing educational needs.
Chapter 9: Role of the School Head in School-Based Management (SBM)
Moderator: Now, moving on to the chapter 9. Panelist #3, what are the main benefits
of SBM in improving school performance?
Panelist #3 (angelica): SBM empowers schools to make localized decisions, ensuring
that policies and programs are tailored to their unique challenges and opportunities. It
also increases stakeholder engagement, leading to shared accountability and stronger
community involvement in school development.
Panelist #5 (mary): Absolutely. With SBM, schools can allocate resources more
effectively, ensuring that budgets are planned realistically while also encouraging
transparency and responsibility among all participants.
Moderator: That makes a lot of sense! How does SBM enhance accountability and
decision-making at the school level?
Panelist #7 (melaiza): By involving teachers, parents, and students in decision-
making, SBM ensures that every decision is transparent and backed by collective
responsibility. Additional, schools are more accountable for financial management,
curriculum development, and resource allocation, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
in operations.
Moderator: Exactly! Okay, I had some envelopes earlier and now they're all gone. So, I
prepared a chart with numbers on it. All you have to do is pick a number and answer it
because each number has a question. Let’s start with the Panelist #8.
(question #5: What role do parents and the local community play in the effective
implementation of SBM?)
Panelist #8 (april): Parents and the local community play a vital role by actively
participating in decision-making, providing resources, and supporting school activities.
They also help in monitoring school programs and ensuring that initiatives align with
the needs and expectations of the community.
(question #1: How does the school head’s leadership directly impact the success
of SBM initiatives?)
Panelist #7 (melaiza): A school head’s leadership is crucial in setting the vision,
encouraging participation, and ensuring that policies and decisions align with the
school’s goals. And also, effective school heads promote transparency, accountability,
and collaboration among teachers, parents, and students, ensuring that SBM initiatives
are successfully implemented.
(question #8: What leadership qualities are most essential for a school head to
effectively implement SBM?)
Panelist #6 (rica): Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as
school heads must work with various stakeholders to ensure successful SBM
implementation. Visionary leadership and adaptability are also crucial, as they allow
school heads to anticipate challenges and implement innovative solutions.
(question #6: How can schools overcome resistance from teachers or staff who
may be hesitant to embrace SBM?)
Panelist #5 (mary): Schools can address resistance by organizing workshops and
awareness campaigns to educate teachers and staff about the benefits of SBM.
Encouraging open communication and involving them in planning and decision-making
processes will also help in easing their concerns.
(question #4: Can you provide an example of a successful SBM initiative and
what factors contributed to its success?)
Panelist #4 (monica): A successful SBM initiative is the implementation of a
community-led literacy program where parents, teachers, and students work together
to improve reading comprehension. Key factors for success include strong leadership,
stakeholder engagement, and adequate resource allocation.
(question #2: What specific strategies can school heads implement to ensure
that all stakeholders actively participate in SBM?)
Panelist #3 (angelica): School heads can hold regular consultative meetings where
teachers, parents, and students are encouraged to contribute their ideas and concerns.
They can also create committees that involve different stakeholders in decision-making
processes, ensuring shared responsibility.
Moderator: We only have two questions left, now the two panelists will play rock paper
scissor and the winner will be the first to pick a number on the chart.
(panelist #1 and #2 will play)
(question #3: How does SBM influence teacher motivation and professional
growth?)
Panelist #2 (marcus): SBM provides teachers with a sense of ownership over school
programs and policies, which increases their motivation to contribute and perform well.
It also encourages professional development by allowing teachers to take part in
leadership roles and training opportunities.
(question #7: In what ways can technology be integrated into SBM to enhance
decision-making and resource management?)
Panelist #1 (jaa): Schools can use digital platforms to collect and analyze data on
student performance, attendance, and resource allocation, improving decision-making.
Online communication tools can be used also to enhance collaboration among
stakeholders, making it easier to share updates and coordinate school initiatives.
