This is a great beginner’s choice for a kraft-
tex project! Designer Abigail Long said, “For
change, cash, credit and gift cards, or maybe
just odds and ends that would otherwise roll
around the bottom of your bag, the Betty
Pouch is a perfect fit. And its super-easy, quick
construction just may have you making it for
friends, too.” It’s a great kraft-tex project, with
only one easy rectangle to turn inside out—and
the kraft-tex isn’t even in the corners! When
we were stitching it up, we discovered that the
original project didn’t need any revisions!

Fabric scraps: Any • Cut 1 piece of fabric 6˝ × 83/4˝ for the main pouch exterior.

• Cut 2 pieces of fabric 31/4˝ × 6˝ for the pouch exterior.
(7/8˝ diameter): 1
For the kraft-tex • Cut 1 piece of fabric 6˝ × 131/4˝ for the pouch lining.
version you’ll need • Cut 1 piece of fabric 11/2˝ × 31/2˝ for the button loop.
1 piece of kraft-tex
• Cut 1 square of fabric 3˝ × 3˝ to cover the button.
6˝ × 83/4˝.
Putting It Together!
All seams are 1/2˝. Backstitch at the beginning and end of each seam. Press after sewing each seam.
1. Cover the button, following the instructions on the package. Set aside.
2. Make a button loop (see Loopie Loops, page 28).
Stitch. Press open.
3. To make the patchwork pouch exterior, sew
the 31/4˝ × 6˝ pieces of fabric to the short ends of
the 6˝ × 83/4˝ piece, right sides together. Press the
seams open. FIG. A A.
4. Fold the button loop strip in half. Aligning the
raw edges, pin the loop to the right side of the
patchwork pouch exterior, centered on the end that
Baste.
you want to be the front flap of the pouch. Baste in
place 1/4˝ from the edge. FIG. B B.
5. Pin and stitch the 6˝ × 131/4˝ lining piece, right
sides together, to the exterior piece made in Step 3
Trim
(above). Leave a small opening on a long side for corners.
Lining
turning. Trim the corners. Turn right side out and
carefully poke the corners out. FIG. C

6. Iron flat. Fold over the end without the loop 41/2˝,
lining sides together. Pin in place and topstitch all the
way around, 1/8˝ from the edge. This will close up the
sides of the pouch and put a nice finish on the edges.

7. Fold the flap down and place the covered button in
the middle of the loop. Move the loop aside and stitch
the button down firmly through the pouch front only.
Stitch
all around.
D. Fold up 4½˝.

3. Stitch along both long sides 1/8˝ (or less, if edges.

4. Fold the stitched loop in half and press it
in the shape of a slightly pointed U, with the
folded side of the loop facing in. Make sure
the raw ends are even. Place as directed in the
