LEARNING PLAN

MATHEMATICS 7
3rd Unit
WEEK 1
Content Standard:
 The learners should have knowledge and understanding of use of rates.
Performance Standard:
 The learners are able to identify and use rates .
Dominican Core Value Focus:
 EXCELLENCE, SPIRITUALITY and JOY
Most Essential Learning Competencies:
 Identify and explain the uses of rate.
 Solve problems involving speed.

Objectives: At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
a. identify the use of rate and speed.
b. appreciate the importance of the rate and speed in your daily life; and
c. solve rate and speed problems in real-life situations.

Subject Matter:
Lesson 1.8 Rate and Speed

Activity 1: BIBLE VERSE
 Present the Bible passage to the learners through PowerPoint presentation.

But
those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Processing Questions:
1 What can you say about the passage?
2. Why is it important to know our roots?
3. As a learner, how do you relate this passage in your daily life?

Activity 2

Compare the prices of milk on the right.

Which is Cheaper?
GATAS FRESH MILK GATAS FRESH MILK
240 ML 1L
₱99.00 ₱365.00

To compare the prices of milk in the figure, you have to evaluate their prices for an
equal volume, such as 1 mL of milk in this case.

₱ 99
Price of 240 mL milk =
240 mL

= ₱ 0.4125/mL

₱ 365
Price of 1 L or 1000 mL milk =
1000 mL

=₱ 0.365/mL

₱0.4125/mL is called rate and is read as “ ₱ 0.4125 per mL. “ Using the calculated
rates, the cost f 240-mL milk is ₱0.4125/mL and the cost of 1-L milk is ₱ 0.365/mL.
Thus, the 1-L milk is cheaper than the 240-mL milk.

 Present the objectives of the day

FIRM UP
RATE AND SPEED

Rate is the amount of change in a quantity per unit of another variable.

Change∈Quantity
Rate = Unit of Time∨Variable

Example:

Danilo took 4 hours to complete a typing job. He charged ₱ 500 for his
service.

a. Find his hourly rate.

b. If another typing job took him 10 hours, how much did he charged
for this job at the same hourly rate?

Solution:

₱ 500
a. hourly rate = b. Charge = ₱ 125 x 10
4 hrs

= ₱ 125 per hour = ₱ 1 250

Speed is the rate of change in distance traveled.

DistanceTraveled D
Speed = Time Taken
or R =
T
Example.

If Jose walks 600 m in 10 min going to school, how many meters does he walk
in 1 min?

Solution:
Distance travelled = 60 m

Time taken = 10 m

DistanceTaveled
Speed =
Time taken
600 m
=
10 min

= 60 m/min

If the Speed remains unchanged for a period of time, it is called a constant speed or
uniform speed. However, in reality, maintaining a constant speed or uniform motion
throughout a period of time is difficult. It is more appropriate to use average speed
in the calculation.

Total Distance Traveled D

Average Speed = or R =
Total Time Taken T

Example:

A car travel at 70 km/hr for the first 3 hours of its journey. Its average speed for the
next 2 hours is 60km/hr. Find the average speed for the whole journey.

Solution:
Total Distance
Average Speed for the Whole Journey =
Total Time

Total Distance Covered = (70 x 3) +(60 x2)

= 210 + 120

= 330 km

Total Time = 3 + 2

= 5 hr

330
Average speed for the whole journey =
5

= 66 km/hr
DEEPEN: Rate, Speed and Average Speed

TASK 3: Answer the Following situations.

DIRECTIONS: Find the rate in each case.

1. Find the rate of a cyclist travel is a distance of 90 kilometers in 3

hours.
2. What is the rate of Melba’s in wrapping 20 gifts in 4 minutes.
3. Find the speed of car travels 400 kilometers in 5 hours, how many
kilometers does the car travel in 1 hour?
4. What is the average speed of a travels at 50 km/ hr for the first 1 hour and
65 km/ hr for the next 4 hours? Find the average speed for the whole journey.

TRANSFER: SPEEDY RELAY PUZZLE

DIRECTIONS: The learners are divided into four groups. Each group must
have six members to complete a task as quickly as possible they are given
10 minutes as the maximum time to finish the speedy relay puzzle. Record
the time to complete each task, then calculate the speed for each.

CLOSURE:

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will
run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

[Link] do you think "renewing strength" impacts the ability to maintain a constant speed or rate for
longer periods?
[Link] the verse describes someone soaring like an eagle, how might you describe the rate (speed) of an
eagle compared to someone running or walking? What factors influence how fast each can go?

[Link] someone walks for 5 hours without growing faint and covers a total distance of 15 miles, what was
their average walking speed in miles per hour?

Just as eagles soar effortlessly, they will experience spiritual vitality and endurance. Even in life's
challenges, they will run without growing weary and walk without fainting, empowered by God’s
sustaining presence. This verse highlights the profound strength and perseverance that come from
relying on God, enabling believers to overcome difficulties and continue their journey with vitality and
resilience.

ASSIGNMENT:

Direction: The learners are required to write their assignment in their

mathematics notebook to find the rate in the following problem.

1. A 5kg bag of rice costs ₱200.00. Find the rate per kilogram.
2. A 75mL bottle of juice costs ₱50.00. Find the rate per milliliter.
3. A 500 sheet pack of printer paper costs ₱300.00. Find the rate per sheet.
4. A 50-page notebook costs ₱20.00. Find the rate per page.
5. A 12-pack of pencils costs ₱30.00. Find the rate per pencil.
