Philippines in the 21st Century Blueprint of Nationalism
Potential and Challenges, those words are my description of the Philippines in the 21st
century. Potential because of the development in our economy due to jobs such as call centers,
overseas Filipino workers, and tourism. But despite that, Filipinos still suffer from poverty in
which access to education and health services are within their reach. In line with this,
overpopulation has become a major issue in our country causing traffic and housing problems
but the government is already working on this to solve the crisis. The country also faces natural
disasters like strong typhoons and earthquakes resulting in loss of life and property and economic
disruption leaving a huge impact on our nation (Bank, 2019). For this reason, a blueprint is
created to provide a better guide and management in developing Philippines further in the 21st
Century.
The first step mentioned in the blueprint is Education for Everyone. The purpose of this is
to develop an informed community because being educated leads to a skilled workforce which
boosts the nation’s economic growth and other important things in building the nation. In doing
so, subjects like Philippine History and STEM should be tackled as it helps Filipinos to nurture
their national identity (Anglia, 2023) and also develops their skills for employment (Kaing,
2016). This should be followed by implementation of reforms that promote accessible education
like free tuition. Along with integration of technology in rural areas to provide equal
opportunities for all students.
The second step is Economic Development and Job Opportunities, this focuses more on
providing investments for sustaining infrastructures, agriculture reforms, and support for small
and medium enterprises. For infrastructure investments, programs like “Build, Build, Build”
helps our nation to be more productive, and help people get out of poverty, and also address
issues regarding overpopulation (Van den Brick, 2024). In agricultural reforms, rural
productivity will be boosted and incomes can offer decent jobs and strengthen our food security.
Lastly, supporting SMEs can lead to local economic growth by having better access to financing
and innovative solutions.
The third step is Innovation in Technology, it plays a big role in the development of the
nation such as advancement in government, health, education, and businesses. To support this,
we need to invest in better internet and digital systems, create spaces where Filipinos can use
their expertise in technology and develop their new inventions so they contribute solutions to our
issues in the country (Aquino, n.d.).
For our fourth step is Green governance, the use of open government data and regular
audits build trust between citizens and the government. Anti-corruption programs should focus
more on strict laws against bribery, supports on whistleblowers, and we should also encourage
institutional checks and balances. In doing this, local governments are given more control over
decisions and budgets can help create policies that address community needs the best (La Viña &
Aceron, n.d.)
The last step for the blueprint model is Environmental Sustainability. In this part, strict
and strong policies are needed in addressing the issue of climate change, protection of natural
resources, and also the usage of renewable energy. According to USAID, to fight against these
crises, the country should reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use land responsibly, and also
prepare for disasters that will come. Another solutions can also be protecting biodiversity,
control in deforestation, and better water resources management in which serves as the keys in
conserving nature. Moreover, switching to renewable energy like solar, wind, and hydropower is
recommended because it helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels as it also cleaner and more
sustainable energy than it is.
Concluding this, the vision for the Philippines in the 21st century is a united and
prosperous country where everyone has the opportunity to dream and achieve success. While
there is a chance for development, challenges like poverty, overpopulation, and natural disasters
still need to be addressed. The blueprint gives solutions to these problems by focusing on
education, offering more job opportunities, using technology to solve issues, giving care to the
environment, and encouraging good leadership. It highlights the need for unity, innovation, and
strong leadership to make these changes happen. By following this plan, the Philippines can
build a better future for all its people
