Ecosystem

What is an
Ecosystem?
An ecosystem is a community of living organisms and their physical
environment that interact with each other: In an ecosystem, energy
flows through the system and matter is recycled. Ecosystems with
greater biodiversity are more stable and can better resist
disturbances. However, human activities can degrade ecosystems,
leading to the loss of biodiversity, climate change, and environmental
pollution.
THERE ARE
3 TYPES OF
AN
ECOSYSTE AQUATIC (WATER)
M
An aquatic ecosystem is a water-
based environment where
organisms, or aquatic life,
interact with each other and their
surroundings..
ARTIFICIAL ECOSYSTEM
Artificial ecosystems are human-made
structures where biotic and abiotic
components are made to interact with
each other for survival.
FOREST (LAND)
A TERRESTRIAL ECOSYSTEM IS A LAND-
BASED COMMUNITY OF ORGANISMS AND
THE INTERACTIONS OF BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC
COMPONENTS.

COMPONENTS:
THERE ARE TWO MAIN COMPONENTS OF AN
ECOSYSTEM WHICH ARE IN CONSTANT
COMMUNICATION WITH EACH OTHER. THEY ARE
THE BIOTIC COMPONENTS AND THE ABIOTIC
COMPONENTS.
Keeping the Number of
Plant and Animal
Populations in Balance
Food webs are balanced systems of energy transfer that keep the populations
of animals, plants, and microorganisms within an ecosystem in check. All
ecosystems have food webs that support equilibrium. The predator-prey
relationship, for instance, is important for maintaining equilibrium within an
ecosystem.
INTEGRATED TOURISM
MASTER PLAN
An integrated tourism plan for forests can help protect and
Increase
restore ecological resources, revitalize the local economy,
and promote popular science research and education. Here
are some things to consider when developing an integrated
Productivity, tourism plan for forests:
Optimize
Capacity, and
Continuity of
Natural MARINE SPATIAL PLANNING
Production. MARINE SPATIAL PLANNING (MSP) IS A
PUBLIC PROCESS THAT INVOLVES MULTIPLE
OCEAN USERS TO MAKE COORDINATED
DECISIONS ABOUT HOW TO USE MARINE
RESOURCES SUSTAINABLY
Humans Help Maintain The
Balance of the Ecosystem
Good human impacts on the environment include reforestation, using clean energy, and protecting natural
preserves and forests to maintain the natural biodiversity. Protection of habitats and even supporting protected
growth of endangered species has allowed for some ecosystems to survive or prolong survival.

THE WATER CYCLE IS OFTEN TAUGHT AS A SIMPLE
CIRCULAR CYCLE OF EVAPORATION, CONDENSATION, AND
PRECIPITATION. ALTHOUGH THIS CAN BE A USEFUL MODEL,
THE REALITY IS MUCH MORE COMPLICATED. THE PATHS
AND INFLUENCES OF WATER THROUGH EARTH’S 10
ECOSYSTEMS ARE EXTREMELY COMPLEX AND NOT
