Axial Load Capacity of Piles per IRC 78

The document outlines the axial load carrying capacity of a pile in rock socketed conditions according to Method-2 of IRC: 78 - 2014. It provides formulas for calculating the allowable bearing capacity (Qallow) and ultimate capacity (Qu) of the pile, using parameters such as shear strength and dimensions of the pile and socket. Specific values for shear strength and dimensions are given, leading to a calculated allowable load of approximately 376.000 T.

Axial Load Carrying Capacity of Pile

(In case of rock socketd)

(As per Method-2 of IRC: 78 - 2014)
BH-6(P-2) at 12.0 m depth
Qallow = Allowable bearing capacity of pile
Qu = Ultimate capacity of pile

Qallow = Re/3 + Raf/6

Qu = Re + Raf
Qu = CubNcAb + CuSAS
Where,

Cub = Average shear strength below base of pile, for the depth equal to
twice the diameter of pile based on average N value of this region
Cus = Ultimate shear strength along socket length to be obtained from
table based on averag N value of socket portion.
Nc = 9

Ab = Cross sectional area of base of pile

As = Surface area of socket

D = Dia of pile
L = Length of socket
4M
From the table of method-2 under Cl.709.3.1 of Appendix-5
Cub = 0.7 (in Mpa)
= 70 T/m2
Cus = 0.55 (in Mpa)
= 55 T/m2
D = 1.2 m

L = 4 m
Ab = 1.13 m2
As = 15.08 m2

Re = CubNcAb = 70.00 X 9.0 X 1.13

= 712.51321 T
Raf = CuSAS
= 829.38046 T
Qallow = Re/3 + Raf/6
= 237.5044 + 138.2301
= 375.73448 T
(Say 376.000)
