Magazine production process
Pre production - Content
In the pre production content stage the editorial team get together,
plan content and share ideas. Writers are assigned certain articles
and then need to conduct any research about what they are writing
about. This stage is important because this is when all of the
decisions are made, roles and articles are allocated and given out.
⤈
Pre production - Flat Planning
In this stage of pre-production the editorial team makes a flat plan
to organize the layout of every page in the magazine, the length of
the text and where the images go, they can change the order of the
articles if they need to. This stage is important as it helps keep the
pages organized and there are no confusions about the magazine
layout.

Production
The articles are planned and any research conducted. If archived
images are needed then they will be arranged to see if they can be
used, then the articles are written. Photoshoots are planned and
completed.
⤈
Production - Writing and Sub - editing
In this stage of production the sub-editor checks the articles for
spelling, grammar and the length, if the article is too short then they
will ask the writer to add more and if it is too long they will ask for it
to be shortened or they will do it themselves. A desktop publishing
software is used to layout the article and the photos for the
magazine. This stage is important as the magazine pages are all
constructed.
⤈
Post Production - Checking Printers proof
The magazine is sent to the publishers and they make a mockup of
the magazine, the editors are sent the mock up and approve it.
⤈
Post production - Completion and Distribution
