DROP OUT REDUCTION PROGRAM NARRATIVE REPORT
GRADE 9-MOLAVE
COVID-19 pandemic has not only been a major health crisis but an educational one as well challenging the
learners to continue their education. However, the Department of Education still strives to ensure that learning will
continue in the New Normal. Studies show that majority of the learners affected by the health crisis struggle from
going back to school due to financial instability. Most of them decide to drop out and get employed.
In line with this, Malapad na Bato NHS supports DepEd’s intervention program that will reduce, if not totally
eliminate, high drop out rate and improve learning outcomes of the students using various approaches – the drop
out reduction program.
The school, with the initiative of the teachers, ensures that the learners will complete their education.
Different approaches were used by the teachers and class advisers to engage the students in learning despite the
current health situation:
1. Conduct of regular Online Kumustahan with Grade 9-Molave to address their needs, monitor their
academic performance, and provide assistance for learning. This will help the learners feel relaxed and take a break
from answering the learning tasks.
2. Home visitation for students with incomplete learning activity sheets and outputs and distribution of
remediation and intervention materials.
3. Sending messages through letters, chat, text and phone calls for students who were not able to pass their
accomplished answer sheets or claim the learning packets for the following week to achieve 100 % of retrieval and
distribution.
4. Providing learning assistance to students through video presentations and sharing links of informative
posts or videos in Facebook.
5. Encouraging learners to accomplish their tasks creatively by giving rewards and incentives.
Through these strategies, learners will be able to cope up with the current situation in the educational
system. Furthermore, parents and other family members also have a big role in making this program a success. Their
support and encouragement will boost the performance of the learner and forget about dropping out.
