R for Statistical Analysis

This PDP is designed to provide participants with a foundation in R programming language for statistical analysis,
data visualization, and data manipulation. With a focus on practical, hands-on learning, participants will gain the
skills and confidence needed to effectively work with data and perform statistical analysis.

R is an open-source programming language that is widely used as a statistical software and data analysis tool. The
beauty of R is that anyone can install it without purchasing a license. R generally comes with the Command-line
interface. R is available across widely used platforms like Windows, Linux, and MacOS. The R programming
language has a vast community of users and it’s growing day by day. R is currently one of the most requested
programming languages in the Data Science job market that makes it the hottest trend nowadays. R has a wealth of
packages and libraries, allowing users and researchers to perform complex tasks easily and extend its functionality.
With a few modifications, the same codes can be saved and run to extract results from different datasets.
Objectives:

Ÿ To provide hands-on experience in data manipulation and cleaning.
Ÿ To explore techniques in R for financial analysis.

Has more than 25 years of Industry and Teaching (Academic) experience along with
more than 8 years of research experience. Has been teaching financial modelling,
financial analytics, Derivatives, SAPM, International finance, strategic financial
management in reputed B-schools. Is currently working as Professor, School of
Business and Management (SBM), CHRIST University, Kengeri, Bangalore.

For a period of 8 years worked at various levels at “CIPLA PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd” on

Old Madras Road, Bangalore. During this period was associated with Production
department, Quality Assurance department, Quality control and have been a part of
Dr. Ravindra Babu. S USFDA (United States Food Drug Association) Audit. Has worked for 5 years in ICFAI
Professor Business School –Bangalore as Dean and Associate Dean (Examinations). Worked for
a period of 9 years as a Full-time Associate Professor in ADARSH INSTITUTE of
MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (AIMIT) affiliated to Bangalore
University. Has worked as a visiting faculty for MBA students in a number of B-Schools.
Has presented and published several research articles, case-studies in various reputed
journals (ABDC, WOS, Scopus, UGC-peer). Has published 8 books so far in Financial
Management, Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, International Financial
Management, Banking & Insurance and Stock and Commodity markets for MBA
students of Bangalore and VTU. Has been on Academic Council, BOS, BOE for
prestigious autonomous colleges and deemed to be University. Has been part of the
CORE Team for NBA, AACSB and NACC accreditations.

Passion for learning new things and sharing knowledge has led Dr. Chaya Bagrecha,
Professor and Area Head (Finance), Faculty of Management studies, CMS Business
School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) to a conscious decision of opting for teaching
as a profession. She comes from a business family, which has helped her in hands-on
training in entrepreneurial skills. She has done her MBA from Kuvempu University and
Secured First rank and two gold medals for the best outgoing student in 1993.

Having done her NET with JRF and SLET, she has come a long way, both in terms of
academics and research. She was awarded the doctoral for her research in corporate
governance. She is the recognized research guide of Jain and Bangalore University.
Dr. Chaya Bagrecha
She has published more than fifty papers in various journals and presented more than

Finance fifty papers in National and International conferences. Her research interests are in the
diverse areas of Corporate Governance, Universal Banking, Stock markets, Poverty
alleviation, and entrepreneurship. She has a keen interest in learning new packages
and analytical tools in Finance and Statistics.

Dr. V. Lourden Selvamani is an Assistant Professor (Finance) at Faculty of Management

studies, CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in Bangalore,
Karnataka. His academic journey is distinguished by the attainment of a Ph.D. degree
from Pondicherry Central University. Before his current role, he served as a research
assistant, contributing his expertise to a project funded by the Department of Science
and Technology. His work delves into the dynamic realm of university-industry
collaboration, a critical aspect of bridging the gap between academia and industry.
Furthermore, his research expertise extends to patent scientometrics.

Dr. Lourden Selvamani Proficient in utilizing various software tools, including SPSS and AMOS for data
Assistant Professor analysis, DEA Analysis for decision-making support, R Studio, and financial modelling
Finance for in-depth financial analysis, his research and academic journey commenced after
successfully qualifying for UGC-JRF in Commerce, both in July 2014 and June 2016,
further underscoring his dedication to academic discipline.
