Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

Social media has become a big part of people’s lives today. Many people use
it to stay connected with friends and family, while others use it for
professional purposes. However, research shows that social media can have
a negative effect on mental health. Spending too much time on social media
can make people feel isolated, anxious, and even depressed. The constant
comparison with others on social media can lead to feelings of inadequacy
and low self-esteem.

Moreover, the pressure to portray a perfect life on social media can result
in stress and anxiety. It’s important for people to balance their social media
use and be aware of how it’s affecting their mental health. Taking breaks
from social media, engaging in face-to-face interactions, and seeking help
when needed are effective ways to reduce the negative impact on mental
health.

Edited Version (Work Sample):

Title: The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health

Social media is a huge part of most people's lives today. It helps us stay
connected with family and friends, and many use it for work or professional
networking. But research shows that social media can also negatively affect
mental health. Spending too much time scrolling through posts can make
people feel lonely, anxious, or even depressed. Constantly comparing
ourselves to others online can lower our self-esteem and make us feel
inadequate.

On top of that, the pressure to showcase a "perfect" life on social media can
cause stress and anxiety. It’s crucial for everyone to find a balance in how
they use social media and pay attention to its effects on their mental health.
Taking breaks from screens, spending more time with people in person, and
reaching out for help when necessary can all help reduce the negative
impact social media has on our well-being.

Key Revisions:

1. Tone & Flow:

o I made the language a bit more conversational and relaxed (e.g.,
"is a huge part of most people's lives" instead of "has become a
big part of people’s lives today") to make it feel more like
something a human would naturally write.
2. Simplification:
o Simplified some phrasing to make it more readable and natural
(e.g., "Spending too much time on social media can make people
feel isolated" became "Spending too much time scrolling
through posts can make people feel lonely").
3. Consistency:
o Kept the tone consistent throughout—informal but still
respectful and professional.
4. Clarification & Impact:
o Slightly reworded some parts for clearer understanding and a
more personal feel (e.g., "the pressure to portray a perfect life"
to "the pressure to showcase a 'perfect' life").
