Spreadsheet Functions
Short Report
Spreadsheets like Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel allow users to perform quick and accurate calculations
using built-in functions. This report explains how to create a dataset and apply the SUM function to calculate the
total.
Process Explanation
Open the Spreadsheet: Start by launching Google Sheets or Excel.
Enter Data: Input 10 numerical values in column A (A1 to A10).
Apply SUM Function:
Click on an empty cell (A11).
Type the formula: =SUM(A1:A10)
Press Enter to get the total sum.
Verify the Result: The total of all numbers appears in A11.
Creating and Summing a Dataset in a Spreadsheet
Using a spreadsheet application like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, I created a dataset consisting of 10
numerical values. Each value was placed in a separate row within column A. To calculate the total sum, I used the
built-in SUM function by selecting an empty cell and entering the formula =SUM(A1:A10). This function
automatically summed the values, providing the total. This method is useful for quick calculations and can be
extended to larger datasets efficiently.
