Statement of Purpose - Student Visa Extension
Introduction
My name is Harwinder Singh, and my passport number is S3939561. Currently, I am residing in
Canada on a Student Visa, which was issued to me from 15th of April, 2024, and is set to expire on
the 30th of April, 2025. I am enrolled at Canadore College, where I am pursuing a certification
program in Human Resources Management. I am in my second semester, and I shall complete my
program on the 20th of December, 2024. I am requesting an extension of my student permit because
I wish to complement the pursuit of Human Resources Management with a graduate certification in
Logistics and Supply Chain management. I have been accepted to the program, and the classes
will begin on the 6th of January, 2025, at Canadore College.
Reasons to Pursue Logistics and Supply Chain Management
I have a GPA of 3.55 in the first semester of my Human Resource Management program, and I hope
to maintain this streak as I pursue Logistics and Supply Chain Management as well. I have decided
to pursue this program because combining human resources management and logistics and supply
chain management skills will give me a unique advantage in India’s competitive job market. Many
companies in India, especially in sectors like e-commerce, manufacturing, and retail, prioritize
professionals with cross-functional expertise to streamline operations. My Canadian education in
both these fields will set me apart as a candidate with international exposure and high-level skills.
Secondly, India’s logistics sector is rapidly expanding due to increased e-commerce, global trade,
and digital transformation initiatives. By gaining logistics and supply chain management skills, I’ll
be able to meet the rising demand for professionals who understand both the operational and human
resources aspects of business management. Thirdly, sustainability is a growing focus within Indian
industries, and there is an increasing demand for professionals who understand environmentally
friendly logistics practices. My logistics and supply chain management education in Canada,
combined with human resource expertise, will prepare me to help Indian companies implement
sustainable supply chain strategies in line with both national and international environmental goals.
Career Plans
Upon completion of the program, I will be able to undertake a range of roles such as HR Business
Partner (Logistics & Supply Chain), Workforce Planning & Optimization Manager, Operations
Manager – Logistics with HR Oversight, Supply Chain Talent Acquisition Specialist, and Training
& Development Manager (Logistics & SCM). Out of all the roles that I will be eligible for, I shall
assume the role of HR Business Partner (Logistics & Supply Chain) at one of the prestigious logistics
and supply chain firms in India, such as Blue Dart Express Ltd, DHL Supply Chain India, Gati Ltd,
Delhivery, and TVS Supply Chain Solutions. As an HR Business Partner specifically supporting
logistics and supply chain teams, I would handle recruitment, workforce planning, and talent retention
for operational staff. I would also focus on employee training, performance management, and aligning
HR policies to meet the operational goals of logistics departments. After gaining about five years’
worth of experience in this role, I shall take on the role of Head of HR – Logistics and Supply Chain.
As the Head of HR for the logistics and supply chain division, I’d be responsible for end-to-end HR
operations in this domain. I’d work on aligning HR strategies with supply chain objectives,
overseeing recruitment for critical logistics roles, and developing policies that ensure compliance and
efficiency. In terms of compensation, I’d be able to earn an average of INR 12,28,000 per year
working as an HR Business Partner (Logistics & Supply Chain), and upon undertaking the role of
Head of HR – Logistics and Supply Chain, I will be able to earn INR 29,00,000 annually.
Incentive to Return to India
Returning to India after completing my graduate certification in Logistics and Supply Chain
Management in Canada is crucial for personal and professional reasons. On a personal level, my
family plays an integral role in my life, and being close to them is essential for maintaining our strong
bonds. I have responsibilities toward my aging parents, and supporting them in their later years is a
priority that drives me to return. Professionally, India’s logistics and supply chain sector is rapidly
expanding, fueled by economic growth and an increased emphasis on efficient distribution systems.
The Indian logistics market is projected to grow at a CAGR of around 10.5% from 2022 to 2027,
driven by government initiatives like the National Logistics Policy and the focus on Make in India,
India is anticipated to require a significant supply chain workforce due to its burgeoning e-commerce
industry and the rapid digitalization of logistics processes, creating vast opportunities for
professionals skilled in both HR and supply chain management. With this in mind, returning to India
would allow me to leverage my international expertise to support India’s growing logistics
infrastructure and contribute to this dynamic industry. My education and experience will position me
for senior roles in companies driving the Indian logistics boom, such as Flipkart, Amazon India, and
Mahindra Logistics, making my return to India a strategically sound decision for career growth and
fulfilling family responsibilities.
Financial Information
In support of my application to extend my study permit, I am pleased to demonstrate my financial
readiness and stability, ensuring that I am well-equipped to support my education and living expenses
in Canada. Currently, I hold CAD 10,384.64 in my Royal Bank of Canada account, which
provides a solid base for managing my day-to-day expenses while studying. Additionally, my
father holds INR 10,00,592.19 in Punjab and Sind Bank (Joint Bank account with my uncle),
which converts to approximately CAD 16,761.98. This family backing serves as a reliable resource,
further affirming my financial security during my studies. Furthermore, I have already paid a
deposit amount of CAD 2,700 for my Logistics and Supply Chain Management program at
Canadore College, ensuring that a significant portion of my educational expenses have been
accounted for. These funds collectively provide ample resources to comfortably cover both my tuition
fees and living expenses in Canada. My strong financial foundation allows me to focus solely on my
studies without financial strain, positioning me as a responsible and financially prepared applicant.
This financial stability underscores my commitment to completing my educational journey in Canada
with complete independence and responsibility. Copy of Bank Statements are enclosed under
Proof of Means of Financial Support section of this application.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I respectfully request an extension of my study permit to allow me to complete my
studies in Canada. My graduate certification in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a pivotal
next step in my career journey, building on my current expertise and aligning with India’s dynamic
industry needs upon my return. With a robust financial foundation and clear professional goals, I am
fully committed to making the most of this educational opportunity. I am eager to gain the knowledge
and skills that will empower me to make a meaningful impact in my home country. Thank you for
