Method Study:
It is the study of method of work for a job to achieve process improvement, improve layout, improve design,
reducing fatigue and Cost, for developing easier effective method.
❖ Objectives of Method study:
➢ For better design of plant equipment and building.
➢ Improve layout of factory and office.
➢ Higher standard of safety and health.
➢ To improve the flow of work.
➢ To get the better quality.
➢ Effective materials handling.
➢ To improve the proper utilization of resources.
➢ To get maximum output.
➢ To improve administration.
➢ Waste reduction.
❖ The Procedure of Method Study:
S.R.E.D.E.I.M
1. Selecting the Work or Operation to be Studied: Involves choosing a specific task or operation within
the garment manufacturing process for analysis.
2. Recording the Current Method: Detailed observations are made to record each step of the current
method or process used to perform the selected task.
3. Examining the Method: The recorded information is thoroughly examined to identify any
inefficiencies, unnecessary steps, or opportunities for improvement in the current method.
4. Developing and Evaluating Alternative Methods: The most practical, economical, and effective
method, Having due regard to all contingent circumstances.
5. Examine the Preferred Method: Once the best alternative is selected, it is implemented
in garment manufacturing. The new process is so that it can always be identified.
6. Install: Developing the method, implementation of new method to achieve result
7. Monitoring and Follow-Up: Common practice through routine checks

01. Select: Select the job to be investigated.
02. Record: Record data by collecting or by direct observation.
03. Examine: Examine data critically. Challenge the following: What is the purpose of action, where is the
place of performing it, the sequence in which the job is done, the person doing the job, etc.
04. Develop: Develop the easiest and the most economic methods.
05. Evaluate: Evaluate the results of alternative ways of doing the job.
06. Define: Define new method & time and present them to the concerned people.
07. Install: Install new method and train persons to apply them.
08. Maintain: Maintain new standard practice and set control procedures.
❖ Steps of Method Study:
01. Systematic & Scientific analysis:
It is systematic and scientific analysis of department or section, lay-out of machineries, transportation of goods
or materials and movement of employees for developing method.
02. Motion Study:
It is the systematic and scientific analysis of the movement of employees, movement of different parts of
human being and movement of machines for developing the motion.
03. Micro Motion Study:
It is the details and scientific analysis of the arms of the employees for developing the speed of arms and
movement of the employees.
Techniques of Method Study:
❖ Use of the human body:
➢ Both hand same time.
➢ Both hands not are idle.
➢ Motion of arms symmetrical & simultaneous.
➢ Eye & hand co-ordination.
➢ Order of movement – natural rhythmical.
➢ Hand and body motion lowest Classification.
Classification of body Movement:
➢ Knuckle – Finger.
➢ Wrist – Hand & Finger.
➢ Elbow – Forearm, Hand & Finger.
