Lesson Type: Writing a fictional Narrative
Content Objective: To clearly identify what fictional narrative writing
is, the components, and how to ogranise writing a story.
Learning Objectives:
1. The child should be enabled to Identify the characteristics of a
good fictional narrative.
2. The child should be enabled to use vivid details to create a clear
picture for readers.
3. The child should be enabled to organise ideas for a fictional
narrative.
Assessment:
1. Method: Teacher observation
2. Assessment of: Children’s ability to brainstorm, relay the
components of narrative writing, and organise the components of
narrative writing effectively.
Language Development opportunities in this lesson: Narrative,
Genre, Hook, context, conclusion, descriptive language, climax,
components, transitional words.
Literacy Development opportunities in this lesson: The children
will be able to identify the components of narrative writing.

Introduction:
● The lesson will begin with a homework check from the previous
day
● Homework will be shown on the screen to check as a whole class
●Common mistakes will be addressed and corrected as a whole
class.
● A display of the classroom rules will be displayed and discussed as
a whole class.
Warm Up:
● A game of word tennis will be played as a whole class
● Students will get the opportunity to play word tennis in pairs
Stimulus:
● The teacher will elicit prior knowledge of the writing form through
a review.
● A video will be shown on said writing form
Development:
● The writing model will be introduced through a PowerPoint
presentation.
● The Presentation will include whole class discussion, think,pair and
share activities as well as a definition of the writing model and its
components
● As a whole class, the students will identify the key components in
a sample writing piece, the important parts will be highlighted
● An additional story plot will be shared, in pairs students must
identify the key components.
● Additional examples will be shared to reinforce understanding
● The focus trait of the lesson will be introduced (organisation).
● Strategies for organisation will be shared.
● Students will engage in a sorting activity to reinforce
understanding
● A writing prompt will be introduced, explained and discussed
● As a whole class, we will begin to brainstorm ideas related to the
writing prompt
Conclusion:
● Students will relay the components of narrative writing
● Students will repeat the focus trait of today's lesson
● Students will discuss why it is important to write a draft
piece first.
● Homework will be assigned and written on the board -
write first draft
● Students will repeat what is expected for homework
Differentiation:
● The teacher will circulate around the classroom while students are
brainstorming and developing their ideas.
● The teacher will provide individualised feedback and guidance to
students as they work on their ideas.
● The student will encourage students to further develop or refine
their ideas based on feedback.
● The teacher will offer suggestions, ask probing questions, and
provide support to help students clarify their thoughts and focus
their writing.
