1. Regonise fundamental concepts and construction features of AC
machine. 2. Understand torque-slip characteristics, equivalent circuits, and
phasor diagrams of motors.
3. Apply knowledge to solve problems related to motor starting, braking,
speed control, and efficiency optimization.
4. Analyze the effects of parameter variations on motor performance
characteristics. Examine operating characteristics, voltage regulation,
and synchronization requirements of synchronous machines.
5. Design motorcontrolsystems,proposeefficiency-improvingsolutionsfor
AC machines, and evaluate industrial effectiveness ofmotortypesand
control strategies.
COURSE CONTENT

Fundamentals of AC machine winding:Physicalarrangementofwindingsin
stator andcylindricalrotor,concentratedwinding,distributedwinding,air-gap
and MMF distribution with fixed current through winding – concentratedand
distributed, winding distribution factor, magnetic field produced by a single
winding - fixed current and alternating current, pulsating fields produced by
spatially displaced windings, revolving magnetic field
UNIT II
Induction Machines: Principle of operation,construction,types(squirrelcage
and slip-ring), torque Slip Characteristics, starting and maximum Torque,
equivalent circuit, phasor Diagram, losses and efficiency, effect of parameter
variation on torque speed characteristics (variation of rotor and stator
resistances,stator voltage,frequency),methodsofstarting,brakingandspeed
control for induction motors, generator operation, regenerative braking,
doubly-fed induction machines.

Single-phaseinductionmotors:constructionalfeatures,doublerevolvingfield
theory, equivalent circuit, determination of parameters, Split-phase starting
methods and applications

Synchronous machines: Constructional features, cylindrical rotor
synchronous machine-generatedEMF,equivalentcircuitandphasordiagram,
armature reaction, synchronous impedance, voltage regulation, operating
characteristicsof synchronousmachines,V-curves,salientpolemachine–two
reaction theory, analysis of phasor diagram, power angle characteristics,
