Grade 9 Problem Solving in Physics

The document presents three physics problems related to projectile motion. It includes calculations for the time of flight, range, and maximum height of an arrow shot at an angle, as well as the time and horizontal distance for a ball thrown horizontally from a cliff. Each problem requires applying kinematic equations to solve for the specified variables.

Problem Solving Grade 9

1. An arrow is shot from a bow with an initial velocity of v0=40 m/s at an angle of θ=30 ∘
with the horizontal. Calculate:

1. The time of flight.

2. The horizontal distance travelled (range).
3. The maximum height reached by the arrow.

2. A ball is thrown horizontally from the top of a cliff with an initial horizontal velocity of
vx=10 m/s. The height of the cliff is h=45m. Calculate the time it takes for the ball to hit the
ground and the horizontal distance it travels.

3. A ball is thrown horizontally from the top of a cliff that is 20 meters high. The initial
horizontal velocity of the ball is 10 m/s.

1. Find the time it takes for the ball to hit the ground.
2. Calculate the horizontal distance the ball travels before hitting the ground.
