REPRODUCTION
the production of offspring.
2 TYPES of Reproduction
ASEXUAL
- involves one parent and offsprings are genetically identical to the parent
- has 7 types which are: fission, fragmentation, budding, vegetative reproduction,
spore formation and agamogenesis.
- since it has only one parents the way of reproduction is not entail or union of gametes
Methods of Asexual Reproduction:
- Natural Asexual Reproduction
- Artificial Asexual Reproduction
SEXUAL
-involves two parents who has different sexes
- Involves mating
- Offsprings are genetically unique
- Combines individuals genetic information
- gametes fertilizes through both sexes
Methods of Sexual Reproduction:
- Natural Sexual Reproduction or mating
Animal Reproduction in Asexual Reproduction
- acquired through regeneration or copulating one individual
- Less Energy resources required
- no genetic diversity
Example
- starfish regenerates itself to produce another whose genetically identical or just some parts are
growing which developes as an another identical starfish.
- There is only one lizard whose eggs are developing as embryos naturally meaning it's just
copulating the parent who produced them which is known as parthenogenesis.
This lizards are called as Whiptail.
Animal Reproduction in Sexual Reproduction
- Involves fusion of gametes
- requires much energy than asexual
-has genetic chnges through fusion of two sexes opposes diversity
Example
-through mating -female lays eggs
-once fertilized eggs
-after 10-14 days
transforms into a larva
pupa will be
opened by the
butterflys force
releasing a fully
grown adult
butterfly.
-larva develops as pupa to ready there body
for the changes like having their wings and
full grown body
