TUTORIAL 2

1. Two coins are tossed and the number of heads are noted. Write the sample space, probability
distribution of x and draw a line histogram.

2. A coin is tossed twice & the number of heads are noted. Write the probability distribution and
draw a line histogram

3. A fair die is rolled. Write down the probability distribution of getting any particular number.
Write the probability function and draw the line histogram.

4. A fair die is thrown 4 times and the number of times it falls with a 6 on top ‘Y’ is noted. Write
down all possible values of Y

5. A coin is tossed twice & the number of tails (X) is noted. Find E(x)

6. The number of people living in a house on a randomly selected city is described by the following
distribution. Find E(x)

# of 1 2 3 4
people

probability 0.25 0.5 0.15 0.10

7. A car rental company recorded the demand for cars within 50 days. Calculate E(x) of demand

demand 3 4 5 6 7 8
(x)

# of 3 7 12 14 10 4
days (f)

8. A coin is tosses twice & the number of tails (X) is noted. Find V(x) & the standard deviation

9. A bag contains 3 red balls & 7 white balls. 3 balls are taken out without replacement. If the no of
red balls are denoted by x
