Reflection of Light in Mirrors

The document outlines a daily lesson plan for Grade 10 Science focusing on the reflection of light in mirrors and lenses. It includes objectives, content standards, learning resources, and detailed procedures for engaging students in understanding the laws of reflection. The lesson emphasizes both theoretical concepts and practical applications, culminating in an evaluation of student understanding.

DAILY LESSON LOG IN SCIENCE GRADE 10

Second Quarter SY. 2023-2024

Teacher: Shiella S. Soriano Date: January 12, 2024

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Contents Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the images formed by the different
types of mirrors and lenses.

B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to make informed choices on selecting the right type
of mirrors or lenses for specific purposes.

C. Learner’s Competencies Predict the qualitative characteristics (orientation, type, and magnification) of
(S10FE-IIg-50) images formed by plane and curved mirrors and lenses.

1. Cognitive* Define reflection.

Understand the concept of reflection of light in mirrors.
2. Psychomotor* State the laws of reflection.
Apply the laws of reflection to solve problems.
3. Affective* Appreciate the importance of reflection in enabling us to see everything around
us.
II. CONTENT: Force, Topic: Light: Sub Topic: Reflection of Light in Mirrors; Law of
Motion and Energy Mirrors and Lenses Reflection
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. REFERENCES
1. Science 10 Teacher’s Guide Unit 2 Module 3 2. Science 10 Learner’s Material Unit 2 Module 3 page 175
page 136-140 - 182
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previews lesson or presenting the 1. Give the 2 main sources of light
new lesson. (ELICIT) 2. Differentiate Natural light sources and Artificial light
sources
3. Differentiate transparent, translucent and opaque
materials in terms of light passing through them.
B. Establishing a purpose to the lesson. Share a personal experience of using a mirror to fix one's
(ENGAGE) appearance before an important event.
In Filipino culture, mirrors are often associated with
superstitions. For example, it is believed that breaking a
mirror brings seven years of bad luck.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new Watch a short video about reflection of light.
lesson. (EXPLORE) - What do you think will be our topic for today?
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new - Define reflection.
skills # 1.(EXPLAIN) - Discuss the difference between regular reflection (when
light rays hit a smooth surface like a mirror) and diffuse
reflection (when light rays hit a rough surface and scatter
in different directions).

- State the two laws of reflection

1. The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of
reflection.
2. The incident ray, the reflected ray, and the normal (a
line perpendicular to the mirror's surface) all lie in the
same plane.
Explain the following terms:
1. Incident Ray
2. Reflected Ray
3. Normal Line
4. Angle of Incidence
5. Angle of Reflection
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new Activity: Investigating the Laws of Reflection
skills # 2.(ELABORATE) Materials: Flashlight, mirror, protractor, ruler
Instructions:
1) Set up the materials as shown in the diagram.
2) Shine the flashlight towards the mirror at different
angles.
3) Measure the angle of incidence and the angle of
reflection using the protractor.
4) Record your measurements and observations.
Assessment Questions:
1) What did you observe about the relationship between
the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection?
2) How does the angle of incidence affect the angle of
reflection?
F. Developing Mastery (EVALUATE) Problem Solving:
1. Find the angle of incidence, angle of reflection,
and angle A.
2. Find the angle of reflection, angle A and B.
G. Finding practical application of concepts and Rays of light reflect, or bounce off, objects just like a ball
skills in bounce on the ground. This reflection of light is
daily living. (EXTEND) what enables us to see everything around us. Look out
your window: you see everything in the natural world
(that doesn't produce its own light) because it reflects
the light of the Sun.
H. Making Generalization and Abstraction about Reflection is the bouncing off light rays when it hits a
the lesson surface. The two laws of reflection are: (1) the normal
line, incident ray, and the reflected ray lie on the same
plane. (2) the angle of incidence is equal to the angle of
reflection.
I. A. Evaluate Learning Evaluation: Draw a light ray diagram for an angle of
incidence of:
1. 40 degrees.
2. 45 degrees.
3. 50 degrees.
4. 30 degrees.
V. REMARKS

VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learner’s who earned 80% in the
Evaluation
B. No. of learner’s who require additional
activities for remediation who scored below
80%
C. Did the remedial work? No. of learner’s who
have caught up with the lesson
D. No. of learner’s who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well?
Why did this worked?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or superior can help me solve?
G. What innovations or localized materials did I
used/discovered which I wish to share with
other teachers/
