The Original Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and
invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the only-begotten of the Father before all ages.
Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten not made,
of one essence with the Father by whom all things were made;
who for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven,
and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
and became man.
And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried.
And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures;
and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father;
and He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead;
whose Kingdom shall have no end.

Summary of the Nicene Creed
The Nicene Creed is a statement of Christian faith that affirms belief in one
God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of all things visible and invisible. It
proclaims Jesus Christ as the only-begotten Son of God, who is fully divine,
of the same essence as the Father, and through whom all things were
created. Jesus, for the salvation of humanity, became incarnate through the
Virgin Mary, suffered, was crucified, died, and rose from the dead on the third
day.
He ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of the Father, from
where He will return to judge the living and the dead.
The Creed also affirms the belief in the Holy Spirit, who is the Lord and giver
of life, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and is equally worshiped and
glorified.
It declares the belief in the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church, and
emphasizes the resurrection of the dead and the promise of eternal life in
God’s kingdom. The Nicene Creed highlights the core doctrines of the
Christian faith, particularly the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the
redemptive work of Christ, and it is recited by Christians worldwide as a
declaration of their shared beliefs.
