Today we will be discussing the short story “God sees the


truth, but waits” by Leo Tolstoy.
Jull: Aksionov's Grey Hair symbolizes the foreshadowing of how the stress of his
wrongful imprisonment will prematurely age him.
The bloody knife symbolizes the lack of Control Aksionov has on his fate.
And lastly the lives of the Saints symbolizes his immense faith in God and how he
turned towards God during a very difficult period of his life where he has no one else to
turn to.

Alex: Leo Tolstoy's short story "God Sees the Truth, But Waits" deals around Aksionov,
who is wrongfully accused of a murder he did not commit. The major conflict of the
novel is the protagonist's inability to find justice while being innocent. The narrative is
about forgiveness, with Aksionov's unwillingness to forgive Makar as a secondary
conflict. Aksionov's internal fight with guilt and innocence adds to the story's depth. The
conflict is ended when Aksenov recognizes that only God has the ability to forgive.

Alex: The story begins in a small town in the Russian countryside called Vladimir in the
19th century, Ivan Aksionov resides with his wife and 2 children. Next, he sets off to the
Nizhny Fair to sell his goods but is warned by his wife not to go for she had a nightmare
in which he returned with grey hair. He laughed at the concern and interpreted it as a
sign of luck. Third was at the Inn, where he stopped by for the night and met another
merchant with whom he had tea. After being accused of murdering the merchant, he
was condemned and sent to the mines in Siberia with other convicts to work for 26
years.
