“PROPOSED LUXURY HILLSIDE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING”

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Mr. Chen, a discerning client of Filipino-Chinese heritage, commissions the design of a luxurious, contemporary
vernacular hillside residence in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, offering breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and
the serene Macajalar Bay. Balancing his strict Feng Shui requirements with his desire for a home that reflects his
blended heritage, embraces the local architectural style and climate, and provides modern luxury. The challenging
hillside site demands careful integration with the landscape, consideration of local building practices, and sensitivity
to environmental impact.

DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:

I. Feng Shui:
1. Optimal orientation for all key spaces.
2. Balanced Chi flow throughout the house, avoiding negative energy.
3. Harmonious integration of the Five Elements.
4. Subtle incorporation of auspicious Chinese and Filipino symbols.
5. Auspicious master bedroom suite design.

II. Architecture:
1. Contemporary interpretation of Filipino vernacular architecture (e.g., bahay kubo, Ivatan house),
incorporating modern materials and techniques.
2. Luxurious finishes, spacious rooms, and high-end amenities.
3. Seamless hillside integration, minimizing site disturbance and maximizing views.
4. Open-plan living spaces with areas for privacy.
5. Extensive outdoor living areas (terraces, gardens, pool, tea pavilion/meditation area, lanai).
6. Subtle incorporation of Chinese architectural elements (e.g., courtyard gardens, rooflines).

III. Site & Environment:

1. Landscaping that complements the architecture and enhances Feng Shui, using native plants.
2. Sustainable design features (solar panels, rainwater harvesting, energy efficiency).
3. Seismic design compliant with local codes.
4. Maximization of views and natural light while minimizing glare and heat gain.

IV. Client-Specific:
1. Should include 1-Boy’s Bedroom, 1 Girl’s Bedroom, Game Room, 2- Guest Room with T&B, Master
Bedroom, Maids and Drivers Quarters, Living Area which can accommodate small to medium
gatherings, Home Theater & Studio/Office.
2. Respect for Filipino-Chinese heritage and cultural traditions.

Schematic Drawings (Consultation) - Submit the initial drawings representing design studies leading to a recommended
solution of the project. This includes Site Development Plan, Floor Plans and Elevations. Use an A3 sized hopia paper.

Design Plate No. 1 Drawing Requirements/Output. (Grades under PLATES/ESQUISSE)

1. Design Concept Board– It must contain the following:

• Will be considered as your front page
• Must bear the plate name, student name and section on the lower left, and the instructor’s name and
subject on the lower right.
• Must contain the design process undertaken: major plate title, project brief, design concept, design
philosophy, design objectives, design considerations, Illustration and explanation of your design
solution, and other articulation to express your thoughts about your final output (such as but not limited
to behavior analysis, space program, matrix diagram, traffic analysis, diagrammatic flow patterns, site
analysis, orientation considerations: views, wind, solar angles, among others). Use an A3 size white
illustration board/Cartolina.

2. Site Development Plan – It must contain the following:

• Lot dimension or lot bearings, adjacent lots or adjacent developments
• North Symbol
• The design solution such as road networks, path walks, building footprint, and entourage/landscape.
• The site development plan must be oriented through the NORTH.
 • Use black ink, rendered drawings, and alphabet of lines.
• Use the scale 1:200mts or bigger.
• Use an A3 size white illustration Cartolina.

3. Floor Plan and/or other plans needed – It must contain the following:
• Dimensions, label of spaces, label of drawings and the scale used.
• The design solution such as furniture layout, traffic flow and other information that supports your
solution.
• The floor plans must be oriented through the entrance or entry of the building.
• It must be rendered, use black ink and apply aphabet of lines.
• Use the scale 1:100mts. Use an A3 size white illustration Cartolina.

4. 4 Elevations of each building – It must contain the following:

• Dimensions, label of materials used on the facade and label of drawings and the scale used.
• It must be rendered, use black ink and apply aphabet of lines.
• Use the scale 1:100mts or bigger.
• Use the scale 1:100mts. Use an A3 size white /Cartolina.

5. 2 Sections of each building – It must contain the following:

• Section cuts are left to student’s prerogative
• Showcase a complete and proper section presentation (labels, dimensions, section lines)
• Use the scale 1:100mts or bigger.
• Use the scale 1:100mts. Use an A3 size white illustration board/Cartolina.

6. 1 Exterior Perspective & Interior Perspective

• It must show the front facade in two points perspective (Man’s eye view).
• Apply color, shades & shadows.
• The building perspective must occupy 2/3 of the boards with background and entourage.
• Use the scale 1:100mts.
• Use an A3 size white /Cartolina.

PROJECT LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION

The Luxury Hillside Residential will be placed at Claveria, Misamis Oriental, within the vicinity of Claveria
Viewdeck and near 955 road. The site area is approximately 1,350.00 square meters, with one side bordering 7.00m
wide private road and on one side a cliff. For actual lot conditions, please refer to the attached PDF file.

Front page must have a title block, 1cm margin on all sides, and 3cm height on the title block, divide the
