Volleyball Skills Drill Using Projectile Motion

The document outlines a five-minute team drill designed to teach volleyball skills such as spiking, blocking, and setting through the application of projectile motion concepts. It includes details on materials needed, team roles, a rubric for skill evaluation, safety precautions, and an analysis of projectile motion principles. The drill aims to enhance communication, movement composition, and performance among team members while ensuring safety during practice.

Objective:

Develop and demonstrate a fun five-minute team drill that will apply
projectile motion concepts and principles to the learning and development of
three motor skills in volleyball.

A. Target motor skill

Spike - It is the offensive play where a player swings the ball with their palm sharply downwards
over the net and into the opposing court.

Blocking - It is a defensive play that is accomplished by 1, 2, or 3 front-row players jumping and

pressing their arms over the net in an effort to “block” the opposing hitter.

Set - Setting is the second step of passing and it can be done to either dump the ball over into an
undefended spot or to “set” the ball into a position that allows the hitter to spike it over.

B. Materials to be used

Volleyball - Arnaldo and Marquez

Purpose - Volleyball are used to score points during a volleyball match.

Stopwatch - All

Purpose - A stopwatch is a timepiece designed to measure the amount of the time that elapses
between its activation and deactivation

F. Safety Precautions; Before, During, and After Practice/Match of Volleyball

Before: -Warming up before play

-Know position’s most common injuries

-Wearing the right gear

During: -Keeping your focus at the net

-Communication with your teammates

-Keep your eyes on the ball

After: Cool down, Stretch, and refuel with healthy foods to ensure their muscles are properly
recovered for the next practice or game.

G. Analysis and Application of projectile motion concepts and principles.

Projectile Motion:
Projectile Motion is the motion of an object thrown (projected) into the air when, after the initial
force that launches the object, air resistance is negligible and the only other force that object
experiences is the force of gravity.

Projectile:

The object is called a projectile. (Ex. Volleyball)

Trajectory;

It’s path is the trajectory.

Range:

The range of a projectile is the horizontal distance the projectile travels from the time it is
launched to the time it comes back down to the same height it is launched.

Height

Height would be the measurement of an entity from the highest point to the bottom.
