CHAPTER V
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
The present study area is situated in Padaung Township, Western part of Bago
Division. The sedimentary sequence of the present area is belonging to the Upper Pegu
Group. The rocks exposed in the study area are Kyaukkok Formation (Middle Miocene).
Kyaukkok Formation is composed of fine to medium- grained false bedded, yellow and
brown sandstones with thin shale partings and sandstones with calcareous concretions
rich in [Link] of the Kyaukkok sandstones fall in “Arkose” field in the sandstone
classification of Folk (1974).Sandstone is a clastic sedimentary rock primarily composed
of sand- sized mineral particles or rock [Link] petrography of sandstone involves
the detailed study of its composition, texture, structure, and mineralogy. Sandstones are
mainly composed of quartz, feldspar, and lithic fragments. Quartz is an abundant detrital
grain consisting of the Kyaukkok Sandstone. Monocrystalline quartz is commonly
present. Some monocrystalline quartz grains are sub-angular to sub-rounded and sub-
sequent to sub-elongate in shape. The feldspars are orthoclase, plagioclase, and
microcline feldspars. Some of the feldspars are weathered and they display a cloudy
appearance. Under microscopic observations, some of this mica, along their cleavage
traces and their boundaries are stained by reddish-brown materials, actually iron-oxides
are frequently noticed. Rock fragments comprise sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous
fragments. Cementing minerals play a significant role in the strength and permeability of
sandstone. Common cement types include calcite and iron oxides. Sandstone are
classified based on their mineralogical composition, such as quartz -arenite, feldspathic
sandstone, and litharenite. The petrography of sandstone is essential for understanding its
formation and characteristics, impacting various fields such as geology, engineering and
environmental science by analyzing the composition, texture, structure and cementation
of sandstone.
