Interview Protocol

Introductory Script:

Good morning.

I want to welcome you today. Thank you so much for giving up some of your time
to participate in this research. I am excited about this study and look forward to our
conversation today.

I would like to introduce myself to you, I am Bongbong Fernandez, a doctoral

student of the Walden University. As communicated in my invitation email, the purpose of
this study is to explore teacher experiences within your school district in using
technology to teach science online. Your school district will benefit from this research as
the findings of the study will be used to inform the development of a project that may be
used to improve the implementation of your learning continuity program.

Before we get started, I just want to mention a few things. The data collection plan
involves a semi-structured interview that should last for about 40-45 minutes. I have
prepared four main questions to provide answers to my research questions. So, I may
need to ask some follow-up and probing questions to clarify your points and examples.
However, you may pause or refuse to answer my questions. You may also stop this
interview anytime. This is the consent form that you read and signed before coming into
this interview. It says that our conversation here today is completely confidential. Your
name, or anything about your identity, will not appear anywhere in the research findings.
I would like to remind you that I will be audio recording our conversation today so that I
could make a transcript and ensure an accurate record of what you would be sharing in
this interview. I would like to start the recording now if it is okay with you.

[START RECORDING]

As you agree to be interviewed, please say “yes” for the audio-recording when I
ask, “Do you agree to be interviewed for this study?”.

Do you agree to be interviewed for this study? (Wait for the response before proceeding
with the interview)

Do you have any questions? Are you ready to begin?

Background, Screening, and Introductory Questions

Before we get started with the actual interview, I would like to learn a bit more about you
and your experiences with technology use in virtual science learning environments. At
the time you expressed your intent to volunteer and participate in the study, you
answered some demographic questions.
 How long have you been employed in NPSD?
 What science subjects are you presently teaching?
 How long have you been teaching high school science?
 What technologies have you been using to teach science online?
Option A: Thank you for your answers. Let us go ahead and move into the interview
questions.

Option B: Thank you so much for your willingness to participate in the study. But after
talking with you, I am not sure you have the depth experience on technology use for
online science teaching, which I need to answer my research questions. Thank you for
your time. [May still receive a token of appreciation depending upon the circumstance]
