Structure: conditional clause: if + present simple
main clause: infinitive without to ( short infinitive ) / imperative
use example
for general rules or truths If there is no rain, many plants die.
to show cause and effect If you eat fruit and vegetables, you feel healthy.
for commands If it starts to rain, go inside.
La acest tip de subordonată condițională, poate fi utilizat ca element de legătură și ,, when “ ( când ):

First Conditional ( Propoziția subordonată condițională de tip I )

for future events which are likely to happen If you hurry, you will catch your plane.
Second Conditional ( Propoziția subordonată condițională de tip II )
Structure: conditional clause: if + past simple
main clause: would + infinitive without to ( short infinitive )
use example
for less likely or hypothetical events in the future If I gave up work, I would travel round the world.
to give advice If you worked harder, you would pass your exam.
Pentru accentuarea condiției, putem utiliza expresia ,, even if “ :
Even if he had a part-time job, he would work just as hard.
[ Chiar dacă avea o slujbă cu jumătate de normă, el lucra la fel de mult. ]
La subordonata condițională de tip II, uneori utilizăm doar forma were în loc de was, mai ales în
stilul de tip formal:
If I were a millionaire, I’d buy an island.

Third Conditional ( Propoziția subordonată condițională de tip III )
Structure: conditional clause: if + past perfect
main clause: would have + past participle
use example
for imagined or hypothetical events If I had gone to the party, I would have seen my friends.
in the past If we hadn’t been talking so much, we wouldn’t have missed our lunch.
