Mach-Speed Madness 2024-25

RC CAR RACING

TASK

Teams have to build a manually controlled Remote Control Offroad Race Car, which
should be able to get over all the obstacles and complete the circuit within the least
possible time.

CAR SPECIFICATIONS

• Failure to comply with the dimension ranges specified in the table above will result in
deduction of Marks from the competition, with an allowable error of ±5%.

● The car's dimensions should be in range of [1/12 scale, 1/8 scale] of offroad car.
1
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya

● Min ground Clearance should have 1.5inch.

The car must be controlled manually. Teams can use wireless control mechanisms.
Since the participants use a wireless mechanism, they have to use either a dual-
frequency remote, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi with a minimum range of 50 metres. Even RF
module communication is allowed. (Ensure that your RC car complies with any local
regulations or laws regarding radio frequencies, noise levels, and other factors.)

● The dimensions of the remote are not included in the size constraint of the car. The
car may have an onboard power supply or remote power supply in any case.

● The chassis must be self-designed and rigid. The design should be included in the
report/presentation.

● The electronic component should be adequately protected to prevent damage from

water or mud.

● The mechanism used should be such that only one person will control the car. Please
meet all of the above specifications to avoid immediate disqualification.

● Wheel diameter should be in the range of 75mm (minimum) to 150 mm (maximum).

ESC (Electronic speed control) is permitted.

All the details of the parts used should be produced in the report, template for the
report will be provide before round 1.

● A minimum of 1 and a maximum of 4 traction motors (Rear wheel drive/ Four-wheel

drive) can be used on the RC car and max of 2 actuators [ servo].

● Considering the various obstacles, the RC car must have the proper suspension and
Ground clearance should be maintained.

● There is a budget constraint for the participating teams. Any team making the car
should not exceed the expense mentioned in table.

Module Max Expenses

car
15000 Rs/-

POWERSUPPLY

● The participants should use an electric power supply i.e. the power source should be
on the car or kept outside the arena. The power source must be non-polluting and
must satisfy the safety constraints determined by the organisers.

● In the case of an electric power supply, the voltage between any two points should be
less than or equal to 19V DC at all times during the run. The battery capacity should
be at least 2000mAh.

● AC power supply will not be provided and cannot be used in the competition.

ARENA
The Arena may contain some hurdles such as jumps, marble trays, sand pits, slotted
bridges, hanging bridges, See-Saw planks, Rocky Ramps, Slanting roads, dynamic
platform etc. The width of the arena will be designed as per the size of the car given.

The arena will be disclosed during the final round

GAMEPLAY
This event will consist of three rounds. modifying the car after round 2 is not allowed,
and any alterations discovered will result in Penalty.

ROUND1 [ First week of February]

● In the first round, participants are required to deliver a presentation and submit a
report as part of the assessment. (No extra ppt is required, Presentation is being
done using Report only)
● The report format will be provided to the teams.
● The report should contain approximate weight, drawing of car, theoretical power of
traction motor, wheel size, battery capacity, suspension system, steering mechanism,
remote communication method, material used for chassis, theoretical max speed,
ground clearance, drivetrain configuration, theoretical dimension
● 10% change in [dimension, wheel size], is allowed in round 2
● change in [drivetrain configuration, battery capacity] is not allowed.

ROUND2 [ First week of March]

● Each team will run its manually controlled car through the test. This round is the
qualification round to enter the next round. In this round, your car will be tested
structurally, mechanically, and technically and your skills of controlling the car will
be challenged to its peak.
● The car must reach a speed of 30kmph in a straight track.
● Max speed of the car will be tested at the end of 50-meter straight track.

4
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya

● Then the car has to perform a jump in a 45degree ramp, to test for a jump distance and structural
● integrity, car should fall on tiers for qualification.
Car needs to perform a turn test in specified track, the time of completion of turn will

be counted, there will be a minimum time limit for qualification.
● The team have 3 chance to perform each test, and best of them will be taken.

● Car will be also tested for for promised uniqueness and design if any mentioned in report.

Team has to give a report on their final car model, specifying all the parameters, along
with modifications for the next round

ROUND3 [ during Techfest]

● In this round, cars will race each other in arena. Points will be allocated according to
the final finishing position. The number of laps will be decided and will be shared later
on. (Marks and penalty points will be disclosed before the Round 3 as per the
organizers convinence)
● Rules of racing will be shared further on.
● Race Conduct:
Avoid intentionally crashing into other cars or causing disruptions. If you accidentally
interfere with another racer, wait for them to pass before continuing.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

ROUND1

● The car concept would be checked for basic parameters of completion and requested
revision if found unsafe or failed.

5
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya

● The report will be judged on Content, Completeness, Originality, and Creativity, and
Q&A Session.
● The team will receive their 20% marks in this round.
● Evaluation in this round is done on the basis of Report assessment, quality of
Presentation and Uniqueness (features, sustainability, performance etc., as
described in report)

ROUND2
● The relative scoring will be made by the net performance (speed, time) for the completion of
● test, viz, the best of three.

Only one team member is allowed to handle the car. No other team member is
● allowed to control car at the time of test
There will be three attempts per test.

Car will be also tested for for promised uniqueness and design if any mentioned in report.

The car will qualify if it passes all tests before Round 3; however, penalties will be
imposed for each re-test
The car will be not allowed to swap battery or any other part during their three
attempts of test.
Evaluation will be done on 30% of total.

ROUND3

● Only one team member is allowed to handle the car. No other team member is allowed
to enter the arena

The car will be liable for penalty if it causes any kind of damage to the arena.

A car will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least one inch in

a timed period of 30 seconds.
● The team will receive their 50% marks in this round.
Marks will be based on position, crossing checkpoints after accounting penalties.

6
The organisers reserve the right to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit.
However, changes in rules, if any, will be intimated beforehand.
