HNF 127 – Nutritional Assessment
1st Semester; AY 2020-2021

Recap

In Week 14, you learned about how ecological factors affects the nutritional status of individuals
or sub-population.

Objectives

The activities this week aim for you to:

a. understand nutritional assessment at the hospital setting, and


b. differentiate the nutritional assessment methods used at the hospital setting

Lecture Activities

1. Read and Understand

a. Read and understand HNF 123 lecture manual Chapter 7, “Nutritional Assessment
of Hospital Patients” (pp 134-138); Chapter 8 “Conduct of Nutritional Assessment”
(pp 141-144), and Chapter 9 “Advances and Issues in Nutritional Assessment”
b. Make your own notes to summarize the important concepts that you will learn from
this chapter.
c. Take note of the topics/concepts that are unclear to you.
d. Set an appointment within the consultation hours of your lecturer if you have
clarifications about the assigned topics.

2. Guided Journal Appraisal

a. Look for scientific article about ecological assessment and nutritional status.
b. Articles must be a research article (not a review article) and must be published within
the last 5 years.
c. Read the article as many times as needed.
d. Answer the guide questions (refer to the matrix provided in the course guide) then
prepare a one-page summary of your answers.
e. Submit (1) complete copy of the article, (2) completed worksheet/matrix/guide
questions, and (3) one-page summary. Make sure to follow the grading criteria for all
submissions.
e. Rename your file with: HNF 123 Lecture Section_Surname_JournalAppraisal>
f. Submit your output via class LMS not later than 5 pm, June 18, 2021 (Week 16).

Laboratory Activities

1. CNA Presentation of Final Report

a. Read the laboratory guide and set a consultation meeting with your laboratory
instructor if you have clarifications about the procedures.

b. Prepare your PPT as indicated in the CNA Guide.

c. Rename your file with: < CNA_Oral Report_Labsection_Group Number>

d. Attend the online meeting to present your output and submit the PPT via class LMS
on the day of the presentation. Details of the online meeting will be provided by the
laboratory instructor.

2. CNA Final Written Report

a. Read the laboratory guide and set a consultation meeting with your laboratory
instructor if you have clarifications about the procedures.

b. Prepare your CNA Final Report. Incorporate the comments of the laboratory
instructor during the Oral Report.

c. Rename your file with: < CNA_Final Report_Labsection_Group Number>

d. Submit your output via class LMS not later than 5 pm, June 18, 2021 (Week 16).

e. Accomplish the SPE found in the CNA Guide and submit it (individually) via class
LMS not later than 5 pm, June 18, 2021 (Week 16).
