Sound and Current: Key Concepts Explained

The document contains a series of questions related to sound and current, including calculations and definitions of concepts such as current, resistance, wave velocity, and properties of sound. It also explores the relationship between wave parameters and the differences between direct current (d.c.) and alternating current (a.c.). Additionally, it addresses practical applications and energy-saving methods in electrical systems.

Test : Sound & Current

1. n electrons flow through a cross section of a conductor in time t. If charge on an electron is e, write
an expression for the current in the conductor.
2. How is the resistance of a wire affected if it's (a) length is doubled, (b) radius is doubled?
3. Define the term wave velocity. Write it's S.I. unit.
4. Draw displacement-time graph of a wave and show on it the amplitude and time period of wave.
5. State properties of the medium on which the speed of sound in it depends.
6. If you place your ear close to an iron railing which is struck some distance away, you hear the sound
twice. Explain why?
7. The sound of an explosion on the surface of a lake is heard by a boat man 100 m away and by a
diver 100 m below the point of explosion.
(a) Who would hear the sound first — boat man or diver?
(b) Give a reason for your answer in part (a)
8. In which medium the speed of sound is more — humid air or dry air? Give a reason to your answer.
9. In transferring 1.5 C charge through a wire, 9 J of work is done. Find the potential difference across
the wire.
10. A cell of potential difference 12V is connected to a bulb. The resistance of filament of bulb when it
glows, is 24Ω. Find the current drawn from the cell.
11. When starter motor of a car is switched on for 0.8 s, a charge 24 C passes through the coil of the
motor. Calculate the current in the coil.
12. The heart of a man beats 75 times a minute. What is it's (a) frequency and (b) time period?
13. The separation between two consecutive crests in a transverse wave is 100 m. If wave velocity is 20
m s-1, find the frequency of wave.
14. A source of wave produces 40 crests and 40 troughs in 0.4 s. What is the frequency of the wave?
