Circuit Simulation Lab Manual for Z & Y Parameters

The document is a lab manual for the Circuit Simulation Lab (BEE 351) for the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, detailing Experiment No. 5 which focuses on determining Z and h-parameters for a two-port network using PSPICE. It includes definitions and classifications of two-port parameters, such as Z, Y, and ABCD parameters, along with relevant equations. The objective is to compute these parameters using the specified software in a structured laboratory setting.

Definition of Two-Port Circuits

The following linear four-terminal circuit containing no independent sources

I1=I1’
I2=I2’

No external connections exist between the input and output ports.

The two-port model is used to describe the performance of a circuit in terms
of the voltage and current at its input and output ports.

Classification of Two-Port Parameters

1. The Impedance or Z-parameters

2. The admittance , or Y-parameters

3. The hybrid, or h-parameters

4. The inverse hybrid, or g-parameters

5. The transmission T, or a-parameters (or ABCD parameters)

6. The inverse transmission T’, or b-parameters (or A’B’C’D’)

A network is having two pairs of accessible terminals, it is called a two port

network. If voltage and current at the input and output terminals are V1 , I1 and V2 ,
I2 respectively, there are six sets of possible combinations generated by the four
variables, describing a two - port network. Z - parameters and Y- parameters are two
among them.

Using Z- parameters the circuit can be represented by the following equations

V1 = Z11 I1 + Z12 I2
V2 = Z21 I1 + Z22 I2

Using Y- parameters the circuit can be represented by the following equations

I1 = Y11 V1 + Y12 V2
I2 = Y21 V1 + Y22 V2
