ASSIGNMENT-1

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

1. Explain the concept of Fermi level. How does the Fermi level depend on
temperature?
2. Explain direct and indirect band gap semiconductor.
3. What is mobility? How does mobility depend on temperature?
4. What is effective mass? Derive the expression for effective mass.
5. Explain degenerate, non-degenerate and compensated semiconductor.
6. Derive the expression for thermal equilibrium concentration of electrons in
conduction band.
7. Prove mathematically that fermi level for intrinsic semiconductor lies in the middle
of the semiconductor.
8. Derive the expression for total current density in a semiconductor.
9. Prove that intrinsic carrier concentration depends on temperature and also on the
bandgap of the material.
10. Derive the relation between barrier potential and doping concentration.
11. Explain the mechanism of formation of barrier potential.
12. Explain the different types of pn junction.
13. Explain why the space charge width is small in a region of high doping concentration
and large in a region of low depletion concentration.
