Chapter 3: The Levels of the

Student Council

After being unconscious for a full out 30

minutes, Jay finally woke up, opening his
eyelids quickly and going on in defense as
he leaped up, scratched his head and got
ready for combat. However, Jay simply
sees himself alone in the middle of over 30
seats in a high position of about 5metres,
you could easily look at a person so
shamefully, “Damn, I wish I had chairs as
high as these.” Jay said. He looked up and
there, to three different sides, groups of
seats from high to low were there. They all
looked serious and ready to defend
themselves if Jay reacted but simply, Jay
looked to the side where Tsubame blushed
looking down and embarrassed as Ryota
laughed half-heartedly. Before he faced
the other sides, he sighed, “So what club
are we in here, the imagination club that’s
playing house.” he said mockingly yawning,
causing all of them to break in a silence of
fear, “[Damn he does talk way to much!!]”
said Ryota in the shock of his life. On that
moment, to the other side, a girl’s voice
responded to Jay’s intro to them, “You’ve
got quite the nerve saying that right in
here, Jay Combat. You should be more
polite or just stop talking while wasting my
time.” Jay smiled and looked to the girl,
“And what do you expect to do if I don’t
agree to your conditions? I did not even
ask to be here whatever you are.” asked
Jay seeming ready to fight. The girl he was
talking to had long snow-white hair and
wore a white scarf that tied her hair with it
along with ear muffs she put on. She also
had eyes that had a snowing feature,
where snow was falling constantly in her
eyes. She wore a long blue dress which
expressed the beautiful weather as she
had an expressionless face.
Tsubame walked to Jay from her seat
embarrassingly pulling his coat,
“Hehe….uhh…Lady Winters you’d like to
excuse my friend here, apparently he
doesn’t know what he’s saying,” She pulled
Jay close and whispered in his ear, “Jay
don’t act dumb,…don’t you know we’re in
the Student Council?” she expressed her
anger from the whisper. Jay looked to her,
“Off course I know, that’s the whole point
I’m putting my act on.” said Jay. “Wait
what…” Before Tsubame could finish, Jay
returned his attention to the Winters girl,
“Mrs Winters, if you think’ll respect you,
you better think again, got that? For me to
do that, you’ll have to take me down first.”
said Jay. Winter sighed, “It’s such a shame
I would’ve agreed to your perceptions, but
I pass. I’m a busy woman and wouldn’t
want to deal with d*** like you.” said
Winters. Tsubame and Ryota looked to the
drama and waited for Jay’s despondence
to being something kind like, “I’m very
sorry.” but his was different. In front of
them, Jay’s eyes could not be seen as he
looked down and on that moment, he
looked up with his dull eyes and responded,
“Wow…you’re such a b**** you know that
right?” said Jay.
The whole room fell silently for a minute
before Ryota and Tsubame held their
heads and scram in their heads, “Ahhhh!!!
He’s so dead!” They looked back to Jay
with looks that expressionised the words
‘what on earth are you doing?!’ Jay
responded with a smile as the Winters girl
looked as angry as ever, breathing down
as she gritted angrily down, “You wanna
be called such…such…,” suddenly, the
whole room began to start freezing,
shocking Jay as he got a first impression
she was gonna attack. However, instead of
doing that, Winters began to shed out
tears and went down to hug Jay, shocking
everyone with loud coughs as the way to
express it. She cried as Jay looked with dull
eyes, “[Is she still the girl who was trying
attack me or this is some other tale of the
run-down eloping lady?]” asked Jay in his
head. Winters wiped her tears with Jay’s
coat, which made him kind of pissed before
she returned to her serious mode, clearing
her throat, “Heh…sorry for letting go of my
sensitive side…I mean it’s just a hobby
nothing else.” she said with her eyes closed.
Tsubame and Ryota giggled from the
sidelines until Winters looked back, which
made them instantly change their motive
in closing their eyes and sighing. Then,
Winters returned her attention to Jay who
still looked from the sidelines with a blind
face and dull eyes, “Anyways pleased to
meet you, my name is Shelby…Shelby
Winters.” she said. Jay looked to her with
dull eyes as he said in his mind,
“[Whoa…she uses ice and her name has
winter in it….so iconic.]” Jay said before
clearing his throat, “And what does that
concern to me here?” Shelby smiled and
laughed, “Jay…you may quite the
jokes…what do you think a person
summoned to the Student Council does?”
she asked. Jay scratched his head and put
his two fingers to his chin and rubbed it as
if thinking deeply, “Hmmm……I’m not sure
and I don’t care. Now can I go back to
class?” Jay said. Shelby looked at Tsubame
and Ryota, “You never told him you two
didn’t you?” she asked. Tsubame and
Ryota looked around unwarily and
whistled, “About what?” they asked.
Shelby looked to them angrily, “You don’t
answer a question with a question!!” she
shouted. Tsubame sighed and went down
from her seat, “Look Jay……this is gonna be
weird telling you…but…our principal Pr.
Yoshida Linda, the strongest of all in Stella
Academy has been scouting you around
since your 1st year in the life. But, she never
saw you using your lightning energy ever
when bullies tried to annoy you or taunt
you, she said you’ve always used brute
strength only.” Tsubame said as she
approached Jay, “That being said, when
you used your energy, a pact was formed
or rather a treaty. The moment you’d use
your lightning barrier, Pr. Hirona said you
have to you’ll have to join the Student
Council no matter what.” The whole
council looked to Jay for his positive
agreeing but in bias, Jay shook his head
and a response of, “Nah I pass.” making all
of them hit their head with the front of
their tables. Tsubame stood up and
pointed at Jay, “Are you crazy? You’re just
gonna refuse Pr. Yoshida’s request?” she
asked. Jay yawned and scratched his eyes,
“You done with your words?” Tsubame
looked angrily from Jay’s words, “Anyways,
whoever this Yoshida is, tell him/her that
I’d rather go on the wrong path but as long
as I thought about it got that?” Jay said
glaring to the areas of all the chairs, “And
if any of you try to get in my way except
for Tsubame,” he generated suddenly
within the atmosphere, an intense energy
which was amplified by the glare he gave
them all, frightening them, “I’ll kill you all
got that?” he said. Ryota laughed
heartedly at James, amused by his words,
“It’s such amazing to hear from you but I’ll
have to first introduce the 10 student
council members from the Presidents, Vice-
Presidents and Appointers.” Ryota smiled,
“First, I am the President of the Novae
Division, Kai Ryota. My Novae allows me
to master all the weapons I hold. For
example I’ve got more skill on my sword.”
Tsubame looked around, “I’m Tsubame
Hannah and I’m the Vice-President of the
Novae Division. My Novae allows me to
control the earth along with different
forces applied here.” Tsubame looks to
Shelby who sighs, “I’m Shelby Winters and
I’m the President of the Energy side. My
energy is frost energy.” She looks to her
side however, she saw no one was sat
beside her. She then looked to Jay and
there, the girl she knew was there to his
side. She smiled and shook Jay who
remained with his straight face. The girl
had beautiful green eyes that sparkled as
she looked at Jay along with her mixed
red-green tangled hair that was tied in
different knots.
Jay looked to her with his piercing taunting
look, “DO YOU MIND LEAVING ME?” asked
Jay. She smiled, “I do mind actually your
body’s quite amazing. I’m Christina
Etherea. My energy is Grass Energy.” she
said. Jay looked at Christina and smirked at
her, “Heh…your name’s pretty good. Does
it match you or your face?” he said
charmingly, making her blush and turning
Tsubame a bit pissed. Christina looked at
Jay, “Are you charming despite your
emotionless face or…?” she asked, still
with a blushing face. Jay put his finger to
his chin, “Hmm…I guess I am…I think.” said
Jay with a confused thinking way.
Then, a boy stood up with a strangely
weird sign which had two square
separations of blue and white, which
represented element. The boy had stainless
grey eyes that shined like steel and long
blonde hair that reached his shoulders as
he seemed to try and coerce Jay with a
glaring look.
When Jay returned the gaze by looking
with a bit of murder in his blue eyes, the
boy decided to close his eyes, “I’m Siege,
Siege Plainworth, the president of the
element side. My element is Megalith
Metallity.” he said. Jay responded
sarcastically, “Ohhhhh…uhmm…ok.” he
said. Siege banged his desk, “Are you
mocking me…!” Before the bomb exploded,
a girl went to Siege, “Hey it’s ok like…he’s
not a threat, Siege.” she said with a British
accent which made Jay instantly know her
race as she smiled. Siege sat calmingly as
the girl looked at Jay and waved, “Don’t
mind Prez S here, he’s like this to pple who
answer slowly at him.” she said. Jay looked
at the girl, she was beautiful and looked
perfect in a sparkling black dress as it kind
of paired evenly with her white eyes that
represented the moon colour a bit and her
long orange hair that was braided.
He responded, “Well I guess so but his
voice just sounds hoarse and sounds like
he’s shouting all the time.” Jay said which
made Siege shake from his seat but the girl
stopped him with a smile, “I’m sure we’ll
get along pretty well now, I’m Rosa May,
the vice-president of the Element side, my
element is Hazy Zenith.” she said. Jay
responded, “Likewise Mrs May I’ll
promptly understand you dearly and
further.”
Then, to the side, 3 pple stood up from the
right, 2 boys and 1 girl. The 1st boy had just
soulless spiral eyes that repetitively span
and spiral creepy hairstyle of blue and
green.
The 2nd boy had dark grey eyes that
seemed to read the whole room from the
gaze along with the same color of hair.
Then, the girl had pink eyes that looked
like a baby coming from being born along
with turquoise eyes.
They looked in admiration at Jay, who
looked at the 3 with dull eyes and no
interest, “So…what’s so special about you
3?” Jay asked. The girl cleared her throat,
“Well lookey here, we’re all appointers of
the different divisions. I’m Lunar Elisa,
appointer of the energy side. I can control
pain and luck.” she said. Jay looked with
stars but still with an expressionless face,
making Tsubame feel jealous, “That’s
pretty OP…I need an ally like you.” said Jay.
The guy with the weird style then said,
“Nightlurk…, Jin Nightlurk’s my name. I’m
the appointer of the Novae side. My Novae
is Dark Control.” he said with a dark and
fast voice. Jay simply looked at him and
nodded and looked to the other guy,
shaming Jin. The other guy looked away,
“I’m Zero…Zero Fernwood and the
appointer of the Element side. My element
is Visual Hypothesis.” Jay looked around,
everyone’s face had been seen from the
spotlights that flashed them as Tsubame
looked at Jay with a deceitful face, “[I
guess now he doesn’t really care about me.
I mean now he saw over 3 girls that he saw
interesting now.]” Tsubame said with her
face looking down. Then suddenly a smoke
sprayed of purple which Jay inhaled quite
easily without being affected. A boy
clapped his hands as he walked to Jay, “So
you’re the new recruit here huh? Guess
what if you’d like to join the SC, you’ve got
to take down one of us first.” he said. Jay
sharply gazed to the guy. He was built
different. With overstrung muscles to his
bottom and top, he had purple violet eyes
that flowed in a liquid every time he
walked. The same action was happening to
his slick black hair that waved from every
step.
“So apparently I met appointers which
makes you the Secretary of all the divisions
correct?” Jay asked curiously. The boy
smiled and rushed at Jay seeming to attack
him but shook his hand in tears of joy, “I
can’t believe it! Someone actually knows
who I am. Unlike the Prez, VP and
Appointers, the secretary is only one for all
as he has to provide enough finance for the
whole life of the SC to balance.” he span
around and pointed at himself, “I balance
these 3 yet to be extracted as the calamity
of heroes, Julius Lagun.” Julius said. Jay
looked to him and smiled, “I’m glad you
feel like that.” he said. Julius looked to Jay,
“So who’re you fighting. We’re wasting
everyone’s time including yours so better
be quick.” he said. But as he finished, he
saw that Jay was gone and to the Novae
side, Tsubame gasped as Jay grabbed her
hand, shocking the whole SC, “Such
speed…that even unbalanced physics
itself.” they said. Jay winked,
“Unfortunately you all got the wrong guy.
Go look for Jaden, I’m sure he’ll help.
Adios!” he said before sprinting to the door.
But as he thought he escaped, “A person
like a wall was bumped into by Jay, making
him fall from the chest of hers that
bounced around. Jay scratched his head,
“I’m sorry ma’am but I got to g…!” Before
he finished, he was grabbed by the hand
and hugged. Jay looked up as he felt like
he couldn’t breathe and there, Mrs Hirona
Yoshida was in front of him.
“So, Jay Combat how’re you feeling?” she
asked. “Pppplease……I can’t breathe…” Jay
mumbled around. Tsubame looked to her,
“Ms Yoshida you’re killing him!” she said.
Hirona let go of Jay who flattened as he
fell down wriggling like a finger, “Jeez
you’re the principal of Stella Academy.
With those jugs, you could cause the
destruction of the world.” Jay stood up and
patted off the dust off his coat, “So Pr.
Yoshida…why’d you want me to join the SC?
If you give me a good reason, I’d definitely
follow.” he said. Pr. Yoshida looks down
and walked in front of Jay as she went to
his ear, “I know your secret, Jay. Your
worst and badass anger moment in 1st
year.” Jay looked shocked with fright,
which surprised Tsubame, “[She…just
made Jay scared!!]” she said in her head.
Hirona sighed in Jay’s ear, “So…what do
you say?” asked Hirona. Jay shuddered and
seemed like he was broken like glass
before looking angrily at Hirona, “What’re
you after for Pr.?” asked Jay. Hirona
chuckled softly, “Oh don’t worry I’m not
after anything, I’m after someone and I’ll
need your help with that.” she said. Jay
sighed, “AN unbreakable way of
manipulation…what a principal you’re.”
Yoshida laughed from Jay’s statement
before he swayed behind her, surprising
her as she saw Jay already to the exit door
with Tsubame in his two hands carried
bridal-style, “Unfortunately, I’ll be replying
to your word more vividly than you’d think
of, unless you’ll use one of your strongest
to confine me, I won’t be joining the SC.”
he said before with a counter, slammed the
door shut and ran out. Hirona chuckled
from what she had seen as Shelby looked
to her, “Pr. Hirona should we bid chase on
him?” Shelby asked. Hirona sniffled, “Elise
Lunar…go get him and show him the
portion of being in the SC.” Hirona said.
Lunar responded, “Yes Pr. I’ll not fail you.”
before going out of the board with speed.
Meanwhile, Jay continued his speed
running with Tsubame before she panted
and stopped Jay, “Why’re we running?”
she asked. Jay sighed, “You’re my friend, I
cannot have or stand seeing you
distressed.” he said. Tsubame sighed,
“That’s because you made me distressed
seriously Jay…” she said slapping her
forehead. Jay looked confused and then he
realized, “Wait…Tsubame where you
jealous of seeing me talking to other
girls?” Jay asked with curiosity. Tsubame
shook her hand harphazardly with protest,
“No no…it’s not like that Jay…”
Suddenly, a great aura filled the area both
were living in, a great delicious breadth
seemed to have created a serene grace to
all the birds that chirped from the rustling
of the trees going long. As they looked
front, Lunar appeared in front of Jay. She
wore a smile as Jay, got ready for battle by
charging in lightning energy. “Oh…don’t be
so hostile Jay, you’re supposed to be
delicate to girls isn’t that right?” asked
Lunar, “I won’t be exceeding my power
then it'll be fifty-fifty yeah?” asked Lunar.
Jay smiled, “Seems you’ve forgotten who
came here 1st to expect a fight.” Jay
pointed his finger at Lunar, “I won’t hold
back even a little despite that you’re a
girl.” he said. Lunar stuttered mockingly
before laughing softly, “Oh my oh my such
an amazing trajectory you chose, Jay
Combat.” she rose her arms and smiled,
“Then I’ll use my own potential as well.”
Lunar said. Jay returned with an evil grin,
“Prepare to lose.” he said. Tsubame looked
to the 2, summoning their great auras
around the area of different colors, Jay’s
summons his blue energy and Lunar’s was
a star-shaped energy, “[Do these 2 really
expect to actually use that much
energy!!?” Tsubame asked herself, “[No
this can’t be they’ve got to be stopped…but
how?!”]

The introduction of the Student Council members reflects a hierarchical structure within Stella Academy, where each member holds a specific elemental power and a distinct role. For instance, Ryota, as the President of the Novae Division, showcases leadership with a unique ability to master weapons . This is complemented by Tsubame, the Vice-President, who controls earth, suggesting a tiered leadership within divisions . Shelby Winters, with frost energy, leads the Energy side, symbolizing diverse specialization in powers aligning with respective responsibilities . Siege Plainworth, as President of the Element side, adds another layer of command, emphasizing this hierarchy . The structure is further extended to appointers like Lunar Elisa and Jin Nightlurk, highlighting the operational framework with specific tasks, such as appointers, for effective working and balanced power distribution across the academy . This structured introduction reflects both the hierarchical order and the strategic allocation of abilities to enhance governance within the academy.

The dynamics between Jay and Tsubame evolve from mere acquaintances to protective allies during confrontational moments, highlighting a progression in their relationship. Initially, Tsubame is portrayed as someone who is part of the council expecting Jay to comply, but as tensions heighten, she emerges as a confidante who desires transparency with Jay . Her willingness to confront Jay with the truth about Pr. Yoshida's intentions indicates her commitment to honesty and camaraderie . Jay reciprocates this loyalty by prioritizing Tsubame's safety over his defiant stance against the council, notably when he chooses to flee with her, showing protectiveness and concern for her well-being . This evolution from passive participation to active allegiance underscores mutual respect and trust, shifted by shared experiences and challenges, thereby enhancing their relational depth.

Elemental powers function as a critical narrative device, shaping both the plot and character interactions within the Student Council context. These powers not only define the hierarchical status of characters like Ryota's mastery over weapons and Shelby's frost energy, but they also facilitate complex interactions and competition among members . The elemental framework establishes a basis for strategic alliances and rivalries, as seen when different members introduce their abilities and vie for Jay's allegiance, reflecting power struggles embedded in the plot . Moreover, the distinct elemental identities contribute to character development, dictating behavioral nuances and relational dynamics, such as Jay's reaction to the diverse powers when he assesses strength and compatibility . This layered integration of element-based capabilities crafts a multidimensional narrative, where personal abilities reflect deeper thematic exploration of hierarchy, identity, and inter-character tensions.

Leadership qualities among different Student Council members are depicted through their distinct abilities and interpersonal skills, impacting their interactions with Jay by highlighting diversity in leadership tactics. For example, Ryota, as President of the Novae Division, displays authoritative confidence and expertise in combat, suggesting a leadership style based on skill and intimidation . In contrast, Shelby Winters showcases adaptability and emotional intelligence, adeptly managing shifts in emotional dynamics during her introduction and initial confrontation with Jay . Lunar Elisa’s strategic approach to confront Jay using her pain and luck control portrays a calculated leadership, allowing for targeted engagement. These varying qualities shape their interactions with Jay differently; while Ryota’s commanding presence often clashes with Jay’s defiance, Shelby's and Lunar’s nuanced approaches filter into manipulative yet considerate engagements . These variations in leadership styles contribute to narrative tension and influence Jay’s response to the council, ultimately affecting his decisions in terms of alliance and defiance.

The setting of the Student Council room and its broader academic environment significantly influences character behavior and development, particularly for Jay's involvement. The formality and hierarchical nature of the setting impose a sense of expectation and authority, which Jay actively resists, showcasing his rebelliousness and preference for independence . The physical layout and presence of various council members symbolize institutional power and academic prestige, intensifying Jay’s defiance as he perceives these as oppressing his freedom . Additionally, the strategic framing of these interactions in formal environments challenges Jay's independence, prompting him to define his identity outside imposed structures, hence driving character development through resistance to environmental pressures.

Humor serves as a crucial tool in diffusing tension between characters during Student Council interactions, often softening confrontations and clarifying misunderstandings. For instance, during Jay’s confrontational encounter with Siege Plainworth, Rosa May steps in to ease the situation using humor and a light-hearted demeanor, which helps calm Siege and refocuses the tense environment . Similarly, Shelby Winters uses self-deprecation humor to apologize for her emotional display, thereby mitigating the hostility of their initial encounter with Jay . These instances reveal how humor is strategically deployed to foster rapport and facilitate smoother interactions amidst charged dynamics, emphasizing its role in maintaining equilibrium and relational coherence within potentially adversarial situations.

Jay's reaction to being pursued by the Student Council highlights a contradiction in his behavior, reflecting aversion to authority but readiness to use his powers against it. His consistent rhetoric of nonchalance and threat to retaliate if forced showcases disdain for imposed control, emphasizing his rebellious nature against institutional authority . Yet, paradoxically, Jay demonstrates willingness to engage in combat and utilize his powers when directly confronted by Lunar, an appointer of the council, indicating his acceptance of personal challenge and use of abilities under self-determined contexts . This juxtaposition indicates an inner conflict in Jay, allowing him to reject systemic authority while still personally engaging in confrontational displays of power to assert individual agency, thus revealing his complexity in navigating authority versus autonomy.

Jay's interaction with Pr. Yoshida Linda significantly affects his approach towards the Student Council by introducing an element of manipulation based on his past. Despite his previous adamant refusal to join, Yoshida’s knowledge of Jay's secret and her failure to expressly threaten him but hinting at its nature influences Jay’s stance. This suggests that Jay possesses a vulnerability linked to his past, making him resistant to straightforward manipulation yet potentially open to nuanced forms of persuasion . His decision to leave with Tsubame, reflecting a protective instinct, reveals a deeper layer to his character that values loyalty and personal relationships, enriching his depiction as more than a mere defiant figure . This marks a shift from mere defiance to a more cautious engagement with authority, recognizing the underlying motives behind the council's interest in him.

The interaction between Jay and Shelby Winters during their first meeting reveals contrasting personality traits. Jay demonstrates a nonchalant and somewhat abrasive demeanor when confronted, as shown when he retorts to Shelby’s aggressive comment with a blunt insult, exhibiting his confrontational and uninterested attitude . Despite this, Shelby shows a contrasting side; initially, she presents a tough exterior, but unexpectedly reveals vulnerability, shedding tears and apologizing for showing her sensitive side. This indicates her complexity—capable of both aggression and vulnerability . This dynamic interaction highlights Jay's defiant independence and Shelby's multifaceted personality, where her exterior toughness masks underlying sensitivity.

The reaction of the Student Council to Jay’s refusal to join underscores their expectation of compliance and surprise at defiance. The council members seem to anticipate Jay’s agreement due to the principal's reputed strength and the special attention given to him . Their unanimous reaction of disbelief and frustration, as expressed by their gestures of hitting their heads on tables, highlights their expectation of a straightforward acceptance . This also reveals the internal dynamics: there is a hierarchy that presumes authority and assumes that the strategic benefits of joining are obvious. Jay’s indifference and threat to retaliate if forced into participation reveal a potential underlying tension within the council, challenging its authority and the assumption that all selected members will willingly comply.
