Lighting Calculations and Layouts Guide

The document presents a series of lighting calculations involving various scenarios, including lamp lumen output, illumination requirements for rooms, and the effects of lamp height and placement on light intensity. It covers calculations for determining the number of lamps needed, illumination at specific distances, and the impact of reflectors on light distribution. Each problem requires applying principles of photometry to find solutions for effective lighting design.

A lamp suspended 3 meters above the working plane has illumination of 70

lux. Determine the:
i.) lamp lumen output at point A just below it;
ii.) illumination received at point B, 4 meters away from point A
.
2. A hall measuring 36x12m is to be illuminated by 150 watts lamps.
Illumination required is 60 lux. The lamp efficiency is 15.15 lumens/watt; DF
is 1.3, UF 0.5
i.) Determine the number of laps required
ii.) Sketch the layout of the lamps

3. Single energy saving lamps are fixed 400 cm above the working plane to
illuminate a staffroom measuring 16x12 m. If SHR is 1; Estimate the number
of lamps required

4. An incandescent lamp hanging on a celling of a house gives equal illuminance

in a room. The illuminance on a bench lying vertically below the lamp is 63
lux and 2 metres away is 31 lux. Determine the
i.) Vertical distance of the lamp above for the bench
ii.) Luminous intensity of the lamp

5. The illumination at a point on a working plane directly below the lamp is to be

60 lumens/m2. The lamp gives 130 CP uniformly below the horizontal plane.
Determine:
i.) The height at which lamp is suspended.
ii.) The illumination at a point on the working plane 2.8 m away from the
vertical axis of the lamp.

6. A lamp having a candle power of 300 in all directions is provided with a

reflector that directs 70% of total light uniformly on a circular area 40-m
diameter. The lamp is hung at 15 m above the area.
i.) Calculate the illumination.
ii.) Also calculate the illumination at the centre.
iii.) The illumination at the edge of the surface without reflector.

7. The luminous intensity of a source is 600 candela is placed in the middle of a

10 × 6 × 2 m room. Calculate the illumination:
i.) At each corner of the room.
ii.) At the middle of the 6-m wall.

8. The candle power of a source is 200 candelas in all directions below the lamp.
The mounting height of the lamp is 6 m. Find the illumination:
i.) Just below the lamp.
ii.) 3 m horizontally away from the lamp on the ground.
iii.)The total luminous flux in an area of 1.5-m diameter around the lamp
on the ground.
