1. Write about your partner's eating habits.

Include information
about his/her meals, your opinion about his/her eating habits, and
possible changes
My friend, Do My Linh, does not have healthy eating habits. She sometimes skips breakfast. But when
she has breakfast, she usually buys a hamburger and a can of coca from a café near our school. For
lunch, her favorite is fried rice and deep-fried chicken. The good thing is that she prefers to have dinner
with her parents at home. However, she likes eating a lot of rice and fatty pork for dinner. She rarely
eats vegetables but loves fruits. I think Linh should change her diet. Firstly, if she wants to have more
energy for the day, she shouldn't skip breakfast. Secondly, she must reduce the amount of fast food she
eats. Also, eating more vegetables - would be good for her. She should also eat less rice for dinner.
These changes will keep her fit.

2. Choose one negative effect that you discussed above and write a
paragraph about it. Make sure you use the right connectors.
One of the drawbacks of tourism is the damage to the environment of a country or area. In the
first place, tourists use a lot of local resources such as water, food, energy, etc., and this puts
pressure on the environment. Secondly, there is the problem of pollution. Many cities and towns
become overcrowded with tourists, with all their vehicles causing traffic jams as well as air and
noise pollution. Another bad effect of tourism is the destruction of wildlife in some places. The
habitat of wild plants and animals is lost because of the building of tourist resorts, and by
visitors' activities. In short, the development of tourism has bad effects on the environment.
3. Write about what you use English for in your daily life.
I use English for different purposes in my daily life. Firstly, English helps me to communicate
with people all over the world. I have made friends with some students from the UK and
Australia. I use English to chat with them about many things. Secondly, English helps me to get
information and improve my knowledge. Because almost any information is available in English,
it is easy for me to get access to all sources of information in my English. Finally, English is
useful when I want to go abroad to study. A lot of schools and universities in different countries
provide scholarships and courses in English. I am learning English hard to get an IELTS score of
6. 5 so that next year I can go to Australia to study. In conclusion, English is useful for me in
various ways
4. Write a paragraph about the three most important qualities a person
needs to be able to do a job well. Remember to give reasons and examples
to support your opinion.
To be a teacher, you have to be knowledgeable, patient, and sympathetic. Firstly, being
knowledgeable about the subject you teach is important. The reason is your students learn and
get knowledge from you. If you have solid knowledge, they can learn a lot. Secondly, a teacher
should be patient with his/her students. Not all students are the same. Some students cannot
understand the lesson as fast as others, so you may have to explain the lesson to them many
times. Finally, when you are a teacher, you should be sympathetic to students, especially those
with disadvantaged family backgrounds or who have difficulty learning. These students need
your sympathy and love more. In conclusion, if you want to be a teacher, you should be
knowledgeable, patient, and sympathetic.
5. You receive an email from Elena, your pen pal in the UK. She asks you to write to
her about your favorite places of interest in your area. Writing an email telling her
about these places.

Hello Elena,

I enjoyed reading your email! Now I’m going to tell you all about my favorite places of interest.

There are plenty of places of interest in my city. However, my favorite one is the city library. I
come there once or twice a week to borrow books home to read. Sometimes, I also read in the
reading room. I’m really in love with the atmosphere there because it’s quiet and peaceful, I can
concentrate on reading my books without being disturbed. One thing I like about this library is
that it has many valuable old books that you cannot find at any bookstore. This library has a
reading club and I’m a member of this club. Once or twice a month, we gather up and talk with
each other about the books that we’ve recently read. I find it interesting.

Another place of interest that I love in my city is the park. I usually go jogging and enjoy music
every afternoon there. It helps me not only to relax but also to keep fit. The park has a lot of
trees and flowers so the air there is fresh.

When you come to my hometown, I hope I’ll be able to show you some of these places.

Bye for now.

6. Write a paragraph of about 100 words on one of the problems of city life.
Besides many advantages, there are some disadvantages of living in the city. The first problem is
pollution. There are many types of pollution such as air, soil, noise, and water pollution. The city
is contaminated with exhaust fumes emitted from motor vehicles or with toxic gases that are
discharged from the factories and industrial zones. Many people suffer from serious diseases
such as cancer, tuberculosis, and so on. Traffic jam is an alarming problem. People often get
stuck in rush hours and spend many hours on going to work. Lastly, the cost of living is quite
high while the level of their salary is medium. The inflation rate has been increasing, which leads
to the price of necessities and services also going up. In conclusion, living in the city is not easy,
so people should take action to reduce the above problems.
7. Choose one facility that was not available twenty years ago and write a short
description of how students in the past studied without that facility.
It is most likely that students twenty years ago were not able to enjoy the Internet in their studies.
That's why it took them a lot of time, energy, and even money, to do a project that we can now easily
complete in one or two days. For example, when being asked to write an assignment about past
habits, the students had to go to the library, look for books on the topic, read the books, and hand-
write any information that they thought was useful for their assignment. They would also have to
meet with some old people and talk to them about the past. At home, they had to hand-write their
assignment, possibly with a lot of erasing and rewriting of the first draft. After finishing the draft,
they had to write a clean copy on another piece of paper for submission.
8. Wonders of Vietnam
I'm writing about Ha Long Bay, one of the seven natural wonders in the world. Ha Long Bay is
located in Quang Ninh province which is in the north of Vietnam. It is nearly 200km from Hanoi.
So it takes you about 4 hours by car. You can also travel there in a coach or even in a helicopter
on Saturday. The best season to visit Ha Long is in summer when the weather is warm and
sunny. Ha Long Bay has many beautiful caves and islands; therefore, you must take a boat trip
to enjoy the view here. You certainly must take pictures to remember the trip better, too. If you
are an active person, you must do water sports here like swimming, sailing, and windsurfing.
One more thing, you must try the seafood here because it is incredibly fresh and delicious. With
this information, I hope that you will have a wonderful time here in the number one natural
wonder of Vietnam.
