4. Procedures
The learners will do recap from the previous discussion by
answering the question flashed on the screen “How can I tell if two
4.1 Introductory Activity triangles are similar?” Learners who wished to answer can raise
(2 minutes) their hand and those who got the correct answer will receive
corresponding points while those who participated but did not get the
correct answer will still get a corresponding point.
4.2 Activity The learners will play a game called “Who’s My Pair?” Ten
(3 minutes) characters will be displayed on the TV. There are two rows, with five
characters each. Learners would have to match the characters from
the first row to the character they look most similar to on the second
row. Learners who wished to answer can raise their hand and those
who got the correct answer will receive corresponding points while
those who participated but did not get the correct answer will still get
a corresponding point.

1. Can you give the numbers of the character pairs?

4.3 Analysis 2. How did you decide which characters to pair together?
(3 minutes) 3. What are some of the key differences between the characters
in each pair?
Similarity of Triangles by AA, SSS, SAS Similarity
Theorem

AAA Similarity Postulate

If the three angles of one triangle are congruent to three angles of
another triangle, then the two triangles are similar.

A  D
B  E
C  F

Therefore, ABC  DEF by

AAA Similarity Postulate.

AA Similarity Theorem
Two triangles are similar if two angles of one triangle are congruent to
the two
corresponding angles of another triangle.

L  A
E  J

4.4 Abstraction
(15 minutes) Therefore, LEI  AJH by AA
Similarity Theorem.

Try
Determine if the following two triangles are similar.

Using the Triangle Sum

Theorem, m∠C=39° and m∠F=60°.

Therefore, ABC  EFD by AA

Similarity Theorem.

SSS Similarity Theorem

Two triangles are similar if the
corresponding sides of two triangles
are proportional.

AC 10 2
= =
DF 15 3
AB 8 2
= =
DE 12 3

BC 6 2
= =
EF 9 3

Therefore, ABC  DEF by SSS Similarity

Theorem.
SAS Similarity Theorem
Two triangles are similar if an angle of one triangle is congruent to an
angle of
another triangle and the corresponding sides including those angles
are proportional.

NU 12 3
= =
YA 16 4
N  Y

NF 15 3
= =
YD 20 4
Therefore, FUN  DAY by SAS Similarity
Theorem.

Guide Questions:
1. What are the three criteria for proving triangle similarity?
2. Explain the difference between the AA Similarity Postulate and
the AA Similarity Theorem.
3. How do you determine if two triangles are similar using the SSS
Similarity Theorem?
4. What does the acronym "SAS" in the SAS Similarity Theorem
represent?
5. If two triangles have congruent corresponding angles, are they
always similar?
The learners will do an activity called “FACT or BLUFF.”
Learners will be formed into six groups where each group will be given
tag boards. They will refer to each pair of triangles that will be flashed
on the screen. They will identify whether it is FACT or BLUFF base on
the given statement and illustration. If it is a FACT, they must provide
the Postulate or Theorem that supports its similarity.
