The International Press

The International Press of the United Nations (UN) is a multidimensional

organization that is critical for global communication and diplomacy. It

operates inside the UN's broad ecosystem, serving as an important

channel for sharing information, promoting transparency, and encouraging

interaction among member states, agencies, and the global community.

The international press within the UN is not merely a passive observer but

an engaged participant in the pursuit of a more harmonious, equitable, and

sustainable world. Through its efforts in informing, involving, and

advocating, it embodies the UN's core values of transparency, inclusivity,

and multilateral cooperation, striving to fulfill the organization's mandate of

advancing global peace, security, and development for all.

Tips

For Caricaturists:

At the actual United Nations, artists in the galleries take inspiration from

what happens in committee and create art from it. Political comic strips,

representative pieces on maps, and exaggerated political debates,

Traditional caricatures are most welcome. Portraying the seriousness of the

committee in a light hearted and digestible manner is something you should

hope to achieve here, Analogies are always good. Artists may sometimes

create comparisons between people, situations, and objects and show the

contrasts between them.

You can include labels to make the message of the cartoon clearer.

Although not often used in other types of cartoons, they are often used in

political ones to increase the impact of the message. Try using labels on

things that may otherwise be unclear, but don’t overuse them

For Journalists:

Accuracy is fundamental in writing. It's essential for reporters to

ensure that the information they present is correct and reliable. Being

present during events or interviews helps reporters grasp the context and

details accurately, enabling them to provide an authentic portrayal of the

situation. In interviews, maintaining professionalism is key. This includes

asking relevant questions respectfully and listening attentively to the

responses. Additionally, delegates have the opportunity to showcase their

creativity through informal pieces. However, it's crucial for them to maintain

a level of professionalism and sensitivity, ensuring that their content does

not offend or disrespect anyone. By upholding these standards, reporters

can contribute to constructive dialogue and meaningful communication

within the International Press.

For Videographers/ Photographers:

Photographers can cover committee meetings in addition to written content

by visual content, such as images, videos and visual graphics. Writers are

strongly encouraged to present visual content since it is a unique, eye-

catching, and creative kind of reporting. Still, the fundamental reporting

standards apply here as well, just as they do in textual media. Images are a

powerful tool for journalists. Pictures convey a thousand words at a time

and are far more visually appealing than textual material. Textual content is

not nearly as eye-catching as pictures, which have the power to express

thousands of words at once. Photographers can now take photographs for

their reports with the usual textual reporting. However, photojournalism is a

serious field with some basic rules to pay attention to. The delegates'

pictures should be natural, spontaneous, and shot in a professional

manner. Good committee photos typically capture the action, like the

subject being discussed, and fun conversation between delegates.

Generally speaking, subjects in photos or videos shouldn't be staring

directly into the camera to avoid the shots looking staged. Journalists may

choose to provide their own photographs as an attachment to their articles

when evaluating the formal structure and story-telling value of photography.

Requirements

The Pre-requisites

Do not forget to research on the committee you are assigned. While a little

bit of a shift will be permitted, having knowledge of the agenda will not only

broaden your perspective, but it will help you incredibly in making what you

have to.

Research on the issue you have chosen in great depth. Read the

background guides for the agendas and do a thorough internet search for

information to provide a base to your caricature. Research about the

various people, countries and perspectives involved.

Collaborate with other delegates to create joint articles to show harmony in

the newsletter. The International Press is a team, and we must work like

one.
