INTRODUCTION
Good day everyone! My name is
Richard Frank Johnson and I am the first speaker for the pro team. My team
and I will be supporting the topic "Friends are better than family"
We will present three main arguments:
1. Families do not provide the emotional needs friends do.
2. Friends bring diversity, personal choice, and the freedom to create a support
system that better aligns with individual growth and identity.
3. Friends are more supportive than family.
My speech will be starting with brief definitions of the key terms. Next I will be
delivering the main argument.
MAIN ARGUMENT
My first argument is "Families do not provide the emotional needs that friends
do". There is a saying that goes "You can choose your friends but not your
family". Both family and friends can be caring and doting. But some families
people are born in are abusive, hurtful, and draining. Next, I will provide my
reasons why this is true. We confide in our friends because they provide what
our families lack. You have the control on who to surround yourself with
friends that gives a sense of belongingness. I will now show evidence. A study
at Michigan State University shows that out of 280,000 people, friendships
become increasingly important to one’s happiness and health across the
lifespan and a stronger predictor of health and happiness than relationships
with family members. Ladies and gentlemen, we believe that friends are better
than family because families do not provide the emotional needs friends do.
CONCLUSION
To conclude, ladies and gentlemen, my partners and I firmly support the topic
"Friends are better than family." Thank you for listening, we hope we kept you
entertained.

Good day everyone! My name is
Richard Frank Johnson and I am the first speaker for the con team. My team
and I will be supporting the topic "Family is better than friends."
We will present three main counterarguments:
1. Family is always there for you, friends are not.
2. Friends are not as important as family.
3. Familial relationships have a better connection than friendships.
My speech will be beginning with disproving the pro team's argument. Second
I will be delivering the main counterargument that my opponents must rebut.
MAIN COUNTERARGUMENT
My first counterargument is that “family is always there for you, friends are
not.” When it comes down to it, you always have family to rely on and they will
always listen to you. My reasons for this statement is that friends are not
usually permanent they eventually come and go. Friends are not as close as
your family which makes them not as approachable as your relative. Friends
also do not have the availability that a family does as they are near and at
home with you. Your family knows you better than anyone ever since you were
born and know all about your secrets. Now I will provide the evidence.
According to the National Library of Medicine, family relationships are
enduring and consequential for well-being across the life course. It also states
that family connections can provide a greater sense of meaning and purpose as
well as social and tangible resources that benefit well-being. Ladies and
gentlemen, we believe that family is better than friends because family will
always be there for you.
