LAB MANUAL
Lab 1:
In this lab, we analyzed employee compensation data to break down key elements like salary,
overtime, bonuses, and deductions. The goal was to get a clear picture of the overall pay
structure by spotting the top earners, seeing how different deductions affect take-home pay, and
understanding the role of extra earnings like bonuses and overtime. We focused on finding useful
insights, such as salary comparisons and financial trends, to help improve decision-making and
financial reporting.
Lab 2:
In this lab, we concentrated on estimating and distributing resource costs throughout the various
stages of a project, with a strong focus on managing the budget. We started by identifying the
main phases that are initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure and then estimated
costs for things like labor, materials, equipment, and overhead for each phase. We also explored
and applied methods for tracking and controlling monthly expenses to stay on top of budget
management.
Lab 3:
In this lab, our instructor introduced us to Microsoft Project, a powerful project management
tool. We started by learning how to organize tasks within a project, which helped streamline
workflows and made sure all tasks were clearly defined. We also practiced linking and unlinking
tasks, as well as using indent and outdent functions to create task hierarchies and set up
dependencies. These basic skills are crucial for managing complex projects efficiently with
Microsoft Project.
Lab 4:
In this lab, we learned how to set up a payroll system and define named cells in Excel for easier
reference. We also explored creating drop-down lists using data validation, which helps
streamline data entry and keeps everything consistent.
Lab 5:
In this lab, we focused on enhancing our skills in software applications and project management.
We started by using Excel to calculate a person's salary across various time frames, including
hours, days, weeks, and months. Then, we shifted to project management software, where we
learned how to create, manage, and plan projects. For hands-on experience, we worked through
two scenarios: a painting project and a construction project, allowing us to apply what we
learned in a practical setting.
Lab 6:
In this lab, we built on our Excel skills by expanding our previous salary calculations across
different time frames like days, weeks, and months. We also explored project cost estimation,
concentrating on elements like contingency funds, overhead costs, and total project expenses. To
deepen our understanding of labor costs, we calculated the average total payroll. Additionally,
we revisited the painting project, this time assigning resources to specific subcategories, which
helped sharpen our resource allocation skills.
Lab 7:
In Lab 7, we practiced on a marriage project on project excel to understand how varying
percentages of project completion affect the overall outcome. This exercise helped us gain a
better understanding of how project progress impacts the final deliverables, allowing us to see
how different stages contribute to the success of a project.
Lab 8:
In Lab 8, we explored two distinct projects: the convocation project for Sir Syed University of
Engineering and Technology and a tiling project in the lab. For the tiling project, we learned the
necessary steps involved in the process, including the materials required. We also assigned roles
and resources for workers, such as laborers, white-cement masons, and supervisors, to ensure
tasks were delegated efficiently. For the convocation project, we designed and organized the
entire event, allocating specific resources for tasks such as food management, equipment setup,
lighting arrangements, music, and security to ensure everything ran smoothly.
Lab 9:
In Lab 9, we further planned the convocation project by carefully assigning resources to key
areas like food management, equipment setup, lighting, music, and security. We also
incorporated additional resources to enhance the event, such as selecting and setting up the venue
with seating, stages, and decorations. We coordinated with guest speakers, inviting them and
managing their schedules, and handled the distribution and collection of graduation attire,
ensuring all caps and gowns were organized for the graduates.
