Statement of Purpose

I am happy to introduce myself as a highly motivated individual seeking admission for the
Masters in Public Health program at the University of Nottingham. My name is Sawana Anjali
Rao and I hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial
Health Sciences and Ayush University of Chhattisgarh. I am writing this statement of purpose to
state my strong interest in a career in public health and to present my aspirations and future goals
to the admissions committee.

The passion for healthcare and public health began with my undergraduate studies, during which
I was exposed to all facets of dentistry and how it affects health as a whole. I realized that oral
health is very much related to the overall well-being of an individual, and this led me to the
broader field of public health. I feel that the Masters in Public Health program at the University
of Nottingham will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to make a significant
contribution to this field.

I am attracted to the University of Nottingham for its reputation in offering a holistic and global
perspective on public health. The diverse student population and the opportunity to learn from
esteemed faculty members make it an ideal choice for me. I am confident that I will be able to
broaden my horizons and gain valuable insights from my peers, who come from diverse
backgrounds and cultures.

During my undergraduate studies, I was able to work on several projects related to oral health,
including the use of fluoride varnish for caries prevention and the impact of tobacco
consumption on oral health. Through these projects, I have developed strong research skills, and
I have learned to critically analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions. I am eager to apply
these skills to public health research projects during my master's program.

Apart from my academic achievements, I had practical experience in internship or work

experience. Some of the most enriching experiences was an internship at Government Dental
College in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. During the course, I had a team where I worked with public
health professionals and participated in programs toward community health. This experience
made me aware of the issues the healthcare system is encountering in delivering accessible and
effective healthcare to the underprivileged. It also re-emphasized my belief that public health
interventions and policies can make a difference in the lives of people.

I hope that I can make use of all the knowledge and skills gained to find new ideas on fighting
different diseases and spread the awareness among the masses to prevent them. A master's in
public health is the kind of platform from which I can pursue my aim. The diverse curriculum of
Masters in Public Health program at the University of Nottingham will allow me to gain a more
comprehensive understanding of global health issues, such as communicable and non-
communicable diseases, health policy, and environmental health.

In addition, I am certain that the reputation of the University of Nottingham for delivering
practical learning opportunities will enable me to put my theoretical knowledge into action in
real settings. This is because the university puts emphasis on community-based learning and
collaborations with various healthcare organizations, which would help me gain a more profound
understanding of public health issues at the grassroots level.

Let me write about my academic background finally. I completed my high school from Ryan
International School in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Therefore, throughout my academic journey I have
been maintaining good percentage marks. I am always confident that I will definitely excel
academically with the University of Nottingham too and make the most from the learning
opportunities provided.

In conclusion, I am excited about the prospect of studying at the University of Nottingham and
being a part of its renowned public health program. I am confident that this program will not
