VM Server Setup Guide
The purpose of the VM Server Setup Guide is to provide the pre-requisite information
and detailed steps for setting up a Technical Marketing Virtual Machine Demo
Environment. First-time users should be able to have an environment running within 1
hour after downloading the Virtual Machine files.

DISW Software License

VM Client Setup Guide

It is strongly recommended that you follow the Demo Environment Client Setup Guide to
install clients on your local machine and use the virtual machine strictly as a server. By
doing so, the CPU usage is equally divided between your physical machine and the
virtual machine.
More importantly, the clients (including Vis and NX) can take advantage of the graphics
card from your physical machine. This option is highly recommended by Technical
Marketing for best performance.

The portal supports quick, self-service access to the necessary virtual machine files, enhancing operational agility and responsiveness in sales demonstrations .

Following the VM Server Setup Guide closely ensures that first-time users correctly install and configure the demo environment, providing clear, step-by-step instructions that help avoid errors and reduce setup time to under one hour. This guidance simplifies the process and enhances user confidence and efficiency .

Security considerations include ensuring that the overlay packages are sourced from a trusted portal like the 'Virtual Machine Catalog' to avoid downloading malware. Users must verify that the overlays comply with security policies, and any sensitive data configurations should follow corporate data protection measures. It's also crucial to update licenses correctly to prevent unauthorized software use .

Using the virtual machine strictly as a server divides CPU tasks between the virtual and physical machines, reducing the load on any single machine. Additionally, running clients on the physical machine allows them to utilize the more powerful graphics card available on the host, optimizing performance .

Partners may face challenges with software license compatibility, as they must apply their own licenses. There could also be hardware compatibility issues if the infrastructure does not meet the requirements for running VMware environments. Additionally, network configuration needs careful alignment to prevent connectivity issues with internal systems, and data security protocols must be implemented to protect any sensitive demonstration data used .

The primary role of the VMware Workstation in setting up a virtual machine demo environment is to provide the necessary software platform for running the Tech Marketing Base VM Image. It supports the creation of a base demonstration environment by hosting the base virtual machine, which can further be customized with overlays to form a complete VMware Demo environment .

The use of emphasis texts and attention graphics in the document enhances user comprehension by visually distinguishing important information, making it easier to locate key instructions or warnings. This design strategy helps users prioritize and absorb critical steps quickly, improving document usability .
