ACTIVITY SHEET IN SCIENCE (STE)

GRADE LEVEL QUARTER / DOMAIN WEEK & DAY NO.

GRADE 10 1ST QUARTER/ELECTRONICS WEEK 1-DAY 1-3

Name: _____________________________ Grade& Section: _____________

TOPIC: Electronic Components and Symbols

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Describe and illustrate the different electronic symbols.

Activity No. 1
The Schematic Symbols
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify common electronic components and symbols.
2. Draw simple schematic electronic symbols.

II. LESSON OVERVIEW:

Schematic symbol is a pictogram used to represent various electrical and electronic
devices or functions such as wires, batteries, resistors, and transistors, in a schematic diagram
of an electrical or electronic circuit.
The symbols are very important to represent electronic components in a circuit diagram.
Without electronic symbol the design of circuit and schematics are very difficult and also
knowing the components is very must to read the circuit diagram representation.

GRADE 10 1ST QUARTER/ELECTRONICS WEEK 2-DAY 1-3

TOPIC: Electronic Components and Symbols

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Describe and illustrate the different electronic symbols

Activity No. 2
Build a Simple Electronic Circuit
I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Identify the different components of an electronic circuit.
2. Build a simple electronic circuit.
3. Apply the schematic diagram to represent the different components of an electronic circuit

II. LESSON OVERVIEW:

An electronic circuit is composed of individual electronic components, such as
resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors and diodes, connected by conductive wires or traces
through which electric current can flow. To be referred to as electronic, rather than electrical,
generally at least one active component must be present. The combination of components and
wires allows various simple and complex operations to be performed: signals can be amplified,
computations can be performed, and data can be moved from one place to another.
Circuits can be made up of discrete components connected by individual pieces of
wire. At present, it is much more common to create interconnections by photolithographic
techniques on a laminated substrate (a printed circuit board or PCB) and solder the
components to these interconnections to create a finished circuit. In an integrated circuit or
IC, the components and interconnections are formed on the same substrate, typically a
semiconductor such as doped silicon or (less commonly) gallium arsenide.
An electronic circuit can be categorized as either analog, digital, or mixed-signal. The
most widely used semiconductor in electronic circuits is the MOSFET (metal-oxide-
semiconductor field effect transistor).
Breadboards, perfboards, and stripboards are common for testing new designs. They
allow the designer to make quick changes to the circuit during development.

IV. PROCEDURE:
1. The teacher will demonstrate how to build a simple electronic circuit following the
listed procedure:
a. Pre Laboratory
Safety Precautions:

4
1. Make sure that your hands are dry while doing the activity.
2. Do not put water or any liquid near the working area.
3. Never connect any LED directly to a 9V battery without a resistor in the circuit. It
will damage/destroy the LED.
4. Make sure that the work area is organized. Keep the materials out of reach of
children.

[Link] Proper
The teacher will connect each component of an electronic circuit following the
listed procedure:
1. Attach the battery clip to the top of the 9V battery.
2. Place the red wire from the battery clip into F9 of the breadboard.
3. Insert the black wire from the battery clip into J21 of the breadboard.
4. Bend the legs of the 330 Ω resistors and place one leg into F21.
5. Place the other leg of the resistor into F15.
6. Insert the short leg of the LED into J15 and the long leg into J9.
