Conditions for Combustion Explained

The document outlines the three essential conditions for combustion: the presence of a combustible substance, reaching the ignition temperature, and the supply of oxygen. It explains that combustible substances easily catch fire, and the ignition temperature is the minimum heat required for combustion to occur. Additionally, it highlights the role of oxygen in supporting combustion and provides examples of combustion in everyday activities.

Conditions for
Combustion
CONDITIONS FOR
COMBUSTION
• First,It should be a Combustible or flammable substance.
• Second, Ignition [Link] heat must be at least or
above the substance 'Ignition temperature’.
• Third, The supply of a gas (Oxygen) to take place Combustion.
Combustible Substance

Combustible Substance:Those substances catch fire easily

which undergoes combustion or burn are called combustible
substances( need the low temperature to burn). In simple
words, combustible materials can be burned very quickly and
easily. There are lots of substances or materials which are
examples of combustible [Link] example Paper,
cloth, cooking gas (LPG), CNG, Kerosene oil, wood, charcoal,
etc.
Ignition Temperature

Ignition temperature: It is the minimum temperature to

which a combustible substance must be heated, before it
catches fire. Therefore, we see that a combustible substance
cannot catch fire as long as its temperature is lower than its
ignition [Link] ignition temperature is also known
as the ignition [Link] is the temperature at which any
substance may catch fire and start burning.
Air (Oxygen)

Oxygen : Oxygen plays a very important role in combustion.

It is a supporter of Combustion. Oxygen supports combustion
because by definition combustion is a reaction in which fuel
reacts with oxygen or another oxidant. When fuel burns, it
reacts with oxygen from the surrounding air, releasing heat
and generating combustion products (gases, smoke, etc).
Examples of Combustion

• Combustion in thermal power plants to produce energy for

daily activities.
• Burning of Wood or Coal for the household purposes.
Burning of Petrol or Diesel for using vehicles like car.
Combustion of Natural Gas or LPG to cook. Fireworks or
burning of Wax candle.
