METHODS OF RESEARCH

LOCALE OF THE STUDY

This study will be conducted at the Assemblywoman

Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School, a large

public technical-vocational school in Lias, Marilao,

Bulacan. Being one of Marilao's biggest technical

vocational public schools, that provides students with

practical skills training for various industries. The

school was built in 1971. In 1984, the school changed its

Trade School to name from Marilao National Assemblywoman

Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School. This is to

honor the contributions to education and public service of

the wife of the former vice mayor of Marilao, Felicita G.

Bernardino.

The study focuses on Grade 12 students in Accountancy,

Business, and Management (ABM) strand at Assemblywoman

Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School for the 2024-

2025 school year. A total of 200 students from five ABM

sections participated in the study. In ABM section 1, there

are (13) male students and (25) female students. ABM

section 2 consists of (16) male students and (25) female

students, while ABM section 3 has (15) male students and

(24) female students. In ABM section 4, the male students

total (14) and the female students are (28). Lastly, ABM

section 5 includes (17) male students and (22) female

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The research instrument used by the researchers is

likert scale, According to Jamieson (2025), likert scale,

rating system, used in questionnaires, that is designed to

measure people’s attitudes, opinions, or perceptions.

Subjects choose from a range of possible responses to a

specific question or statement; responses typically include

“strongly

agree,” “agree,” “neutral,” “disagree,” and “strongly

disagree.” Often, the categories of response are coded

numerically, in which case the numerical values must be

defined for that specific study, such as 1 = strongly

agree, 2 = agree, and so on. The Likert scale is named for

American social scientist Rensis Likert, who devised the

approach in 1932

DATA GATHERING

Our research process began with obtaining the

necessary permission from the relevant authorities at the

institution where our study was to take place. We secured

approval from the Secondary Pricipal of AFGBMTS, which

ensured that our research adhered to the school policies

and ethical guidelines. The next step was the creation of a

well-structured survey questionnaire. We worked diligently

to ensure that all questions were designed to gather

meaningful data that aligned with the objectives of our

ComPad study.

We focused on clarity, relevance, and simplicity in

phrasing the questions to minimize confusion and maximize

the quality

of responses. To further ensure the questionnaire's

reliability, it underwent multiple rounds of review and

testing to confirm

its validity. Once the questionnaire was finalized, we

distributed it to the target group—students at the school.

We made sure to engage directly with the participants,

highlighting the importance of their input to the success

of our research. We also provided guidance and addressed

any concerns they had about the survey, making sure they

understood the purpose and felt comfortable with their

participation. After the collection of all the responses,

we carefully reviewed and organized the data. Using

appropriate statistical analysis methods, we analyzed the

responses to derive insights that would inform the

objectives of our research on ComPad: Notebook.

DATA ANALYSIS

After the data collection process, all data were used

in this study in a descriptive manner. With this approach,

the results wefre handled through observation of the ComPad

notebook product and were treated exclusively with what was

relevant to the study. Thematic analysis, because of its

versatility, allows for rich, thorough, and complicated

data descriptions. All data collected from the selected

respondents was kept strictly confidential in order to

contribute significantly and effectively to the study being

conducted. In order to minimize disagreements with the

responder, the researchers also removed conditional biases.

ETHICAL COSIDERATION

Participants must give informed consent, understanding the

study's purpose and any risks. Their privacy and data

confidentiality should be protected through anonymization

and secure data handling. The researchers should also

consider the transparency about any conflicts of interest.

Openly disclosing any potential conflicts of interest is

crucial for maintaining research integrity and preventing

bias. Furthermore, all collected data will be used solely

for educational purposes, and participant information will

be treated with the highest degree of care and

confidentiality.

The study employed a structured survey questionnaire based on a Likert scale to gather data, reflecting best practices in educational research by ensuring clarity, relevance, and simplicity for participants. The research process also included obtaining ethical permissions, highlighting informed consent, data confidentiality, and conflict of interest transparency. Thematic data analysis allowed for rich descriptions while maintaining ethical standards by anonymizing and securely handling participant data, which is a cornerstone of credible educational research .

Ethical considerations in the study included obtaining informed consent, ensuring participants understood the study's purpose, protecting privacy through data anonymization, and handling data securely. Transparency in disclosing potential conflicts of interest was also emphasized. These measures are crucial for maintaining research integrity as they ensure participant rights are respected, reduce bias risk, and uphold the ethical standards required for objective and credible research outcomes .

The historical context of renaming the school to honor Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino serves to deepen community engagement by aligning the school’s identity with local heritage, thereby instilling a sense of pride and ownership among students and staff. This alignment with a respected community leader's values likely inspires students to pursue education with a greater sense of purpose, directly enhancing the school's educational mission by connecting it with real-world examples of civic contribution and leadership .

Engaging directly with participants was crucial as it ensured that students fully understood the survey's purpose and felt their input was valued, increasing the likelihood of honest and thoughtful responses. This approach improves data quality by minimizing inaccuracies and biases often associated with misunderstanding or lack of commitment. Direct engagement reassures participants, leading to higher response rates, greater accuracy in representing participants' views, and ultimately more reliable study results .

Community history, as seen in the naming of Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School, plays a vital role in shaping educational identity by grounding the institution’s mission in local cultural and historical context. It provides students and educators with a narrative of shared values and accountability, fostering a culture of respect and aspiration towards public service and vocational excellence reflective of the community's pioneers .

The gender distribution in the ABM sections at Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School shows a higher number of female students compared to male students across all sections (e.g., Section 1: 25 females to 13 males). This distribution may reflect broader trends where females are increasingly participating in business-related educational tracks. It can also highlight potential challenges in attracting male students to such fields, necessitating targeted strategies to create a balanced educational environment and address gender disparity in business and management education .

The study ensures survey reliability by engaging in extensive review and testing phases, refining the questionnaire for clarity and simplicity. Such measures imply that future educational research must continue adopting rigorous verification processes, including pilot studies and expert feedback, to enhance instrument reliability, thereby ensuring data collected is both accurate and reflective of respondents’ true perspectives .

The technical-vocational school in Marilao was renamed Assemblywoman Felicita G. Bernardino Memorial Trade School in 1984 to honor the contributions of Felicita G. Bernardino to education and public service. This renaming signifies the community's value in acknowledging and commemorating local figures who have made significant impacts in the region. The change from a generic 'National Trade School' to one honoring a community leader reflects an emphasis on personalized education heritage and gratitude towards local contributors .

The use of a Likert scale impacted the study's reliability and validity positively by providing a standardized measure of attitudes, opinions, or perceptions that can be easily quantified and compared. However, the reliability and validity depended heavily on the careful construction and pre-testing of the questions to ensure they accurately captured the intended variables. The validity checks and multiple rounds of reviews ensured the Likert scale accurately measured the constructs of interest, thus enhancing the robustness of data interpretation .

The research at AFGBMTS utilized thematic analysis to handle data descriptively. This approach exemplifies thematic analysis by organizing and interpreting patterns within qualitative data, thus allowing complex educational data to be presented in a coherent form. The approach's versatility supported a thorough, detailed description aligned with the study’s objectives, ensuring meaningful insights were drawn from the respondents’ inputs while maintaining focus on relevant data .
