SAP Note
337623 - Customizing after installation or upgrade
Component: BC-CUS (Basis Components > Customizing), Version: 29, Released On: 13.04.2020
Symptom
You are planning to install or activate a new SAP product, add-on, scenario or a new
component, and you want to use the SAP delivery Customizing directly or as a template.
Or you want to use scenarios and processes of the new release after an upgrade and therefore
want to update the Customizing of your customer client or adjust it to the current status of
the SAP sample client 000.
You have the following questions:
Where and in what form is the new Customizing available in my system?
Are there any utilities that I can use?
If so: How should I proceed?

Reason and Prerequisites
Installation or upgrade (update)
Solution
SAP delivers packed and unpacked Customizing:
Unpacked: Sample customizing consists of client-specific table entries that belong to
table class C. After the installation or upgrade or after the import of the support
package, they are contained only in client 000 (see SAP Note 2857). If the system does
not contain any other packed Customizing, you can create a new client from client 000
(see Note 552711).
CAUTION: The sample customizing provided by SAP (for example, in client-dependent tables
of class C) must never be copied to live clients without a detailed analysis. This could
overwrite existing, live Customizing or render it useless due to contradictory entries!
For example: If you copy the table entries R3TR, TABU and NRIV without further analysis
from client 000 to the live clients, the number range intervals of the live clients may
be useless (depending on the type of copying) and therefore cause terminations in the
applications! If you want to exclude individual tables from copying for a client copy,
see Note 70290.
Packed: Customizing is packed in a set. After the installation or upgrade or the import
of the support package, this set is either contained in client 000 (table class C -
client-specific) or in all clients (for example, table class E, S, W - cross-client).
See Note 2857. The set may contain table entries of different tables that usually have a
close business-type connection. There are business views of different sizes:
BC set: This is the smallest unit. A BC set is usually a combination of sample table
entries from one or several tables that belong to a single business-type function or
a smaller business process. In addition, data that is required to display structures
in the SAP Reference IMG may be contained in the BC set. Sometimes, you must
manually unpack BC sets. Usage: Many SAP solutions deliver sample customizing in BC
sets. In the SAP Reference IMG, you can display the BC sets for each structure. The
usage of the BC sets is usually described in the 'Configuration Guide' or the
'Business Scenario and Business Process Configuration Guide'.
Transaction SCPR20. When you activate BC sets in a live system, refer to the
information contained in Note 719694.
Switch BC set: Switch BC sets are similar to BC sets. However, they are part of a
higher-level grouping of required IMG nodes, customizing data, and sample
customizing data in business functions (BF*) and business function sets (BFS*).
For example: Each industry solution of SAP ERP 6.0 provides its own switch BC sets.
When you activate an industry solution in your deveopment system, the switch BC sets
are unpacked. The switch positions can be transferred in a transport request and can
then be transported into the subsequent systems after successful tests have been
carried out. In the subsequent systems, the transport request automatically triggers
the activation of the industry solution and the unpacking of the corresponding
switch BC sets.
Which data of the Switch BC Sets is unpacked in which clients depends on the table
class and client field. For more information on this topic, see Note 2857.
Caution: It is generally not possible to deactivate switches.
Transaction SCPR3. Using switch BC sets in SAP ERP solutions.
* Background information: What is a BF or a BFS?
1. Business Function: A business function is a unit of objects (not just Customizing
objects) that can be activated and that belong to a larger business-type function,
solution or scenario. For example: Enterprise Extensions of the components EA-*.
Transaction SFW5,
2. Business function set: A business function set is the combination of several
business functions that belong to an integrated solution of, for example, a certain
industry or branch of industry. For example: Industry business functions of the
components IS-*.
Transaction SFW5,
Activating a BC set or switch BC set (SBC) or a business function (BF) or a
business function set (BFS) in SAP ERP solutions:
General information:
Activating a BF or a BFS, as well as the associated unpacking of BC sets or switch
BC sets is an irreversible process.
1. After a new installation
Technical background: After a new installation, you can unpack BC sets before or
after a client copy. The unpacked sample Customizing is then also copied or you must
adjust it afterwards (as described below). SBC, BF, and BFS are not activated
automatically. You can use transaction SFW5 to activate these when you select and
activate the required business-type usage areas. The client-specific sample
Customizing of SBC, BF, BFS is automatically unpacked in client 000 during
activation and must subsequently be copied to other clients or adjusted if required.
Transaction SFW5 provides a comparison and adjustment of existing Customizing data
with switch BC sets (see Note 868771).
Caution: If you have already created your own customizing in a client and, in
transaction SFW5 in this client, you choose the menu path 'System Settings ->
Special Functions -> Special Customizing' to use client-specific SAP sample
customizing, your own customizing may be overwritten! It is essential that you use
the comparison functions here as described in Note 868771. If this 'Special
Customizing' is then transported with a transport in clients of subsequent systems,
in which you have already created your own Customizing, this may be overwritten!
General recommendation: If you create further clients in your system from client 000
only after you unpack BC sets in client 000 or after you activate switch BC sets in
client 000 using transaction SFW5, your new client also contains the SAP sample
Customizing of BC sets, SBC, BF and BFS (Note 550894).
2. After an upgrade to SAP ERP 2005 (SAP ERP 6.0) or higher and after an update (delta
upgrade) to an SAP ERP Enhancement Package.
Technical background: After you upgrade to target release SAP ERP 2005 or higher,
the system automatically activates the business function sets that belong to the
business-type solution that you installed or activated in your system before the
upgrade (and that are part of the SAP ERP solution after the upgrade). If you
activate additional business function sets and business functions in client 000, the
relevant sample Customizing is unpacked automatically only in client 000. However,
you cannot copy this Customizing into a live client (transaction SCC4 -> client has
the 'Production' role) using the copy tools (transactions SCCL, SCC9, SCC1) in order
to prevent existing Customizing from being overwritten and dependent A table content
(master data and transaction data) from being deleted.
If you have already created your own Customizing in a client other than client 000,
which does not have the role 'live' in transaction SCC4, the Customizing may be
overwritten in this client when you copy Customizing with the copy tools
(transactions SCCL, SCC9, SCC1)! After you activate in client 000 in this case, we
recommend that you then adjust the required sample Customizing with your existing
client, for example, using the Customizing function of transaction SFW5 (see Note
868771), which provides a comparison and adjustment of existing Customizing data
with the Customizing data of the switch BC set.
You can use transaction SCU0 to compare Customizing with client 000. If you have a
lot of experience with the application, you can use transaction SCU0 to transfer
Customizing directly (Note 162594). Another option for the comparison is to create a
project IMG after the upgrade (Note 130688). For further information about the
Customizing comparison after an upgrade, see the relevant guides for each SAP
product. Refer to the 'Business Scenario and Business Process Configuration Guide'
and the 'Customizing and Configurations Management Guide' or to SAP Service
Marketplace at [Link]
3. After an upgrade with target releases lower than SAP ERP 2005 or SAP ECC 600
The unpacked Customizing is either in client 000 or in a BC set. Perform a
Customizing comparison in a live client as described above. To avoid overwriting the
data, you must never unpack BC sets in a client that does not yet have the role
"Productive" but which was already set with its own Customizing.
Comment about 2. and 3.:
Missing translations in Customizing after Customizing synchronization
When you used the copy tools (transactions SCCL, SCC9, SCC1, SCU0) to synchronize or
supplement Customizing, you may be required to add the translations for the required
languages in accordance with Notes 43853 and 211226.
General information
The implementation of a new component or the use of new scenarios or components after an
upgrade is usually a more complex project. A large number of table settings must usually be
made with respect to Customizing. This is made more complicated by the fact that a part of
the Customizing objects being changed in the procedure does not belong solely to the
application being introduced but is already used by one of your productive applications. For
this reason, you must consider the business factors and carefully decide whether the
existing table contents of the productive system should or must be changed by a new
implementation object.
General recommendation: Use the tool support of the SAP Solution Manager -
> [Link]
The particular tables to be processed by a project should be determined by the guide
generated from the Customizing project. For this, you must generate a project IMG on the
basis of the component that you want to implement. You can then also execute a delta
Customizing. You should only modify data if you can predict the effect on the running
application.
We do not recommend that you use the compare function from standard table maintenance
(transaction SM30) to change the table in isolation from the Customizing tables and without
knowing the economic significance and their dependencies with other settings. The generic
compare transaction SCU0 (customizing cross-system viewer), which allows you to compile a
specific number of tables and perform a comparison for these, should also only be accessed
by someone with the above mentioned knowledge.
Adding new entries is generally not critical. In many cases, transferring the default
settings delivered by SAP in the SAP sample client 000 to the customer client is of great
assistance. For this purpose, you can usually (but not always) perform a comparison against
client 000 from within table maintenance and transfer the data from there to your client.
The sample data from SAP client 000 is also updated with each upgrade if the tables involved
are pure Customizing tables. In this case, upgrade changes in the customer client do not
apply (see Note 2857).
If you use Basis transaction SCU0 to perform the comparison, you first have to generate a
list of Customizing objects (tables) using the project IMG so that you can obtain all of the
tables that are relevant to the comparison. You can then compare this quantity against the
SAP sample client 000. As a result, you get the list of previously selected Customizing
objects including the summary difference values. You can double-click to perform the
comparison yourself for each object from this list. A direct comparison of the contents is
supported for most Customizing objects. This procedure therefore produces quick results.
However, transaction SCU0 operates only on the basis of quantity and contains no additional
information regarding the application. The information for the project IMG on the SCU0
initial screen only serves as selection criteria for the Customizing objects in question.
However, sequential relations cannot be taken into consideration during the tool comparison.
Nor can you access the documentation help that is usually available in IMG.
Most SAP solutions provide a 'Business Scenario and Business Process Configuration Guide'.
These guides contain information about whether additional sample Customizing exists for
individual scenarios or processes and how to deal with them.
