WELCOME Speech-Nandika

WELCOME Speech-Nandika

Good [morning/afternoon/evening],

Nandika -It's an honour to stand before you to present India’s exciting

mission to the moon Chandrayaan-3. India's relentless pursuit of space
exploration continues with this ambitious venture. Today,India embarks on
a journey that not only pushes the boundaries of space technology but
also strengthens our collective understanding of the universe.

Siddharth : A typical classroom scene just before the teacher

enters the classroom. The class awaits their social studies
teacher Ms Francis. They are excited to discuss the successful
landing of Chandrayaan 3 : A celestial odyssey unveiling secrets of
the moon.

Teacher : Good morning class , indeed it's a very good morning . We the
citizens of this country are very proud of our achievements.

Students: Yes Miss Look what I have found , I got this two rupee note as
change back from the Canteen. I think it has C1 on it .
Ma’am is this an old note showing C1

Teacher :Yes I think so ……… looks very much like it. In fact our topic of
discussion today is Chadrayaan . So class let's take a look at C1/C2/C3.
There are so many wonderful ways to look at ISRO's journey to the moon.
Can someone give me a quick historical perspective of -of C1/C2 ?

● Student 12- darsh

Student 1(KIARA)- My group will like to do it’.

Student 2 (VIDIT) - Chandrayaan 3 was truly a proud moment for India as

few days before the landing of Chandrayaan 3, Russia's moon mission
Luna 25 crashed and not to forget just about 50% of lunar missions across
the world have succeeded.

Student 3 ( from the classroom)-Wow, that's quite remarkable for The

Indian mission.

Student 2(VIDIT)-It certainly is! But did you know that this is not Isro's first
moon mission?
So there have been 3 moon missions Chandrayan 1, 2 and Chandrayaan
3.

Student 4(Farhan): CHANDRAYAN 1 was launched in 2008 and was India’s

first lunar mission. One of its remarkable findings was the discovery of
water on the lunar surface.

Ansh- There were more attempts to reach the moon! India attempted to
reach the moon with its Chandrayaan 2 carrying the Vikram lander and
the Pragyan rover as part of Chandrayaan 2. However, 2.1 km above the
lunar surface we lost contact with the lander and it crashed.

Teacher 1-Yes, Thank you group 1 you shared very important points. Let's
ask group 2 their views on Why Chandrayan 2 failed ?. What did the
scientists do right in terms of Chandrayaan 3 ?

Group 2 student Advit - One of the key reasons behind the success of
Chandrayaan 3 was its ‘failure-based design’ as opposed to Chandrayaan-
2’s ‘success-based design’.

Teacher : V Good point .

Perhaps knowing the difference between What is a success based design
and failure-based design is the essence to every successful or failed
mission not just in space but in every aspect of our lives. These missions
actually teach us very valuable lessons.

Teacher : Let group 3 give us the key differences b/w Failure based /
Success based approach to a problem.

2
Student 4 (Darsh) - a "Success-based" approach means concentrating on
achieving positive results and outcomes. It's all about setting clear goals
and working hard to make those goals happen. It's like saying, "However
this approach did not work for C2.

Student (Arnav) "failure-based" approach means focusing on the lessons

and insights that come from making mistakes and experiencing setbacks.
Instead of seeing failures as something bad, a failure-based mindset
considers them as opportunities to learn and improve.

Student 7(Ishaan. K)- When it comes to outcomes vs learning,

success-based thinking emphasizes achieving desired outcomes, while
failure-based thinking prioritizes learning and growth through
setbacks.

Paarth- Looking at the mindset, success-based thinking tends to

promote a positive and optimistic mindset, while failure-based
thinking encourages adaptability and resilience in the face of
adversity.

Mariyah- Success-based thinking often involves setting and achieving

specific goals, while failure-based thinking places a stronger emphasis on
the journey and the process of learning from [Link]’am when we
look at it in terms of goal orientation

Anishka- Well In terms of risk handling The success-based approach may

not focus as much on proactively identifying and mitigating risks,
while the failure-based approach actively addresses potential
vulnerabilities.

Teacher - What about in terms of success of a mission what is the key

difference b/w the 2?

Student (Yograj) :Success is typically measured based on the

achievement of specific goals or performance metrics in the
success-based approach. In contrast, the failure-based approach
emphasizes the value of setbacks as opportunities for growth.

Teacher :Well let's have someone sum it all up for us

Student (Anandita)- Focus on Learning from Mistakes: Failure-based

approaches focus on the learning and insights that come from making
mistakes and experiencing setbacks. It considers failures as valuable
sources of information and growth.
3
- Adaptive and Resilient: Failure-based thinking encourages adaptability
and resilience. It believes that failures are part of the journey and that one
can bounce back from them. This approach is was what worked for C3

Student : Kiara
Both approaches have their merits and can be applied depending on the
context and goals. In some cases, a combination of both
approaches may be the most effective way to approach
challenges and opportunities.

Teacher - These are such important points you have made here and we
should know that through C1 /C2/C3 we learn to work hard and find ways to
reach our goals . Each one may have a different path, however the key is
hard work and resilience.

Teacher : So after listening to this enlightening discussion What would be

your choice ; success based design or failure based design when it comes to
your own personal life. ?

Teacher : let's have a show of hands for FBA/ SBA

Teacher :There may be different scenarios where you will choose these
approaches in your life .

Aaron: But What about the status of Chandrayaan 3. Now . After all these
approaches I hear it did not wake up because of the lunar nighttime
temperature that plummet to a bone-chilling -250 degrees, rendering
electronic components [Link] means that the batteries might have
been affected due to the harsh Lunar Conditions. All that hard work / effort
gone ????

Pranshu : You are right Aaron the lander has gone to sleep .

Student Ishaan.k :Why invest in space at all when the country could use
the money to help the poor ?

(Nandini)- .India has spent much less compared to the US that has spent
211.6 billion dollars, Russia is second at 46.17 billion dollars while India is
seventh in the world at 31.8 million dollars. In Fact do you know that
many space related movies such as Interstellar have also cost more than
the budget of Chandrayaan 3.

4
Student 12( Prahast)- The Chandrayaan missions have the potential to
create high-tech jobs. From research scientists and engineers to
technicians and administrative staff, the space sector’s growth can offer a
diverse range of employment opportunities. This development is
particularly crucial in India, where the need for skilled labour and the
potential for job creation have gained prominence, especially in the post-
pandemic era.

Pranshu- Yes, experts also said the success of Isro’s Moon mission will
further strengthen the ‘Make in India’ brand and contribute to the growth
of home-grown companies involved in developing satellite systems,
telecommunications and more.
We should only encourage such missions and be very proud of our
country.
